Job Purpose
To deliver high-quality teaching, learning and assessment in Plumbing and Heating across a range of Further Education programmes for learners aged 16–19 and adult learners. The successful candidate will support learner achievement, progression and employability while maintaining high standards of teaching and industry practice.
Key ResponsibilitiesTeaching & Learning
Deliver engaging theoretical and practical lessons in Plumbing and Heating qualifications at Levels 1–3.
Prepare schemes of work, lesson plans and teaching resources in line with curriculum requirements.
Assess learner work and provide timely, constructive feedback.
Monitor learner progress, attendance and achievement to support positive outcomes.
Differentiate learning to meet the needs of individual learners, including those requiring additional support.
Promote safe working practices within workshop and classroom environments.Assessment & Quality Assurance
Carry out learner assessments in accordance with awarding body requirements.
Maintain accurate learner records, progress tracking and assessment documentation.
Participate in internal verification and quality assurance processes.
Support learners in completing practical assessments, portfolios and assignments.
Prepare learners for progression into apprenticeships, employment or higher-level study.Student Support
Act as a tutor/personal mentor for designated learners.
Support learner behaviour management and promote positive conduct.
Encourage attendance, punctuality and professional standards.
Provide careers and progression guidance where appropriate.Curriculum & Industry Engagement
Contribute to curriculum development and continuous improvement activities.
Maintain up-to-date industry knowledge and professional competencies.
Develop links with employers and industry partners to enhance learner opportunities.
Participate in open evenings, recruitment events and employer engagement activities.Compliance & Safeguarding
Comply with all safeguarding, Prevent, equality and health & safety policies.
Ensure workshop environments meet current health and safety regulations.
Maintain professional standards in line with college policies and procedures.
Person SpecificationEssential Criteria
Level 3 qualification (or above) in Plumbing and Heating or related discipline.
Relevant industry experience within plumbing and heating.
Teaching qualification or willingness to work towards one (PGCE, Cert Ed, PTLLS/AET etc.).
Assessor qualification (A1/CAVA) or willingness to obtain.
Knowledge of current industry regulations and standards.
Strong communication and organisational skills.
Ability to motivate and engage young learners.Desirable Criteria
Experience teaching within Further Education.
Internal Quality Assurance qualification (V1/IQA).
Gas qualifications (ACS/Gas Safe).
Experience delivering apprenticeships or work-based learning.
Knowledge of awarding body requirements (City & Guilds, EAL, BPEC etc.).Personal Attributes
