About us
The Manufacturing and Materials business is looking for a dedicated Materials Engineer to work with us at our Global Technology Center (GTC).
We develop materials for new technology applications and design concepts, often in national and EU-funded research programs with our customers. Our mission is to support GKN's growth by developing and implementing competitive technologies. The work within GTC includes development of additive manufacturing, advanced materials, engine systems, products, digitization, manufacturing and inspection methods. We collaborate with industrial and academic partners, and support all business areas, including OEM manufacturing, space/military, civil repairs, and material solutions through additive manufacturing.
About the role
You will be responsible for technology maturation and optimizing material properties. This includes developing heat treatments, selecting materials, coordinating test programs for physical properties, strength, fatigue, creep, etc., in collaboration with our mechanical test lab and external providers. You will analyze test results, document material data for lifetime calculations and manufacturing simulations, and develop test methods and analysis techniques for our internal material database. You will work in a cross-functional team, supporting manufacturing process maturation through material characterization using destructive and non-destructive testing and advanced methods.

Job Qualifications / Skills / Experience
* MSc degree in materials science or equivalent
* Knowledge of titanium and/or nickel-based superalloys
* Experience in material characterization techniques such as SEM, metallography, fractography
* Experience in material testing
* Experience collaborating with universities and writing research proposals
* Strong social skills, network-building ability, and technical responsibility
* Proficiency in Swedish and English
Desirable
* Experience in technology/product development
* Knowledge of manufacturing processes like additive manufacturing, welding, casting, forging, machining
* Knowledge of post-processing such as HIP, heat treatments, NDT
* Proven project coordination experience
* Aerospace experience
