What skills, knowledge and experience will you need?
* Previous experience providing technical application support during major incidents, including understanding and exposure to the ITIL Service Management Framework.
* User Focus – Evidence of successfully communicating complex technical information to stakeholders while influencing their decision‑making.
* Continual Improvement – Evidence of proactively seeking and implementing improvement initiatives from a technical and process angle.
* Service Focus – Evidence of collaborating with other technical teams to provide a quality service.
Your role
You’ll help keep our applications running smoothly and make them even better. You’ll work with a mix of technologies, from Linux and Windows servers to databases, cloud platforms and third‑party software. Your day‑to‑day may involve troubleshooting issues, deploying changes, monitoring performance, or improving processes.
You’ll be part of a collaborative team, sharing knowledge and working closely with developers, architects, testers and other specialists. We use frameworks like ITIL, Agile and Scrum to ensure efficient delivery of real value to our users.
On the technical side, you’ll gain hands‑on experience managing certificates and key exchanges, diagnosing networking issues, and working across both cloud and on‑prem environments. You’ll also be involved in proactive monitoring, implementing fixes and contributing to continual service improvements to keep our applications secure, stable and high‑performing.
Details, wages, perks
Location: Blackpool or Newcastle hubs – whichever is most convenient.
Hybrid Working: A hybrid model – some time working at home and some time collaborating face to face in a hub.
Pay: Up to £39,621.
Pension: Civil Service pension with employer contributions worth 28.97% (worth over £10,000 per year).
Holidays: 24 days per year rising to 31 days over time, plus all public holidays. Up to 3 extra days off a month on flex‑time.
