General Manager
Banbury
Salary: £100,000 to £120,000 DOE plus package
We are partnering with a specialist capital equipment business with turnover circa £5M and strong potential for scale, the company is backed by a supportive ownership group and is entering a phase where clear leadership is needed to grow the business to profitability and build a platform for long term growth.
This role requires a commercially focused leader with a strong background in capital equipment sales, manufacturing and business improvement. You will take full responsibility for the company, leading from the front on sales activity while setting the strategy that will bring the business into a profitable position. This will involve hands on customer engagement, building commercial strength, tightening financial control, and guiding the team through a phase of development and scale up.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the company with full accountability for performance, culture, and long term direction
* Build and deliver a clear plan to return the business to profitability with disciplined commercial and financial control
* Own the sales strategy for capital equipment and lead customer development, prospecting, and closing activity
* Strengthen relationships with key accounts and identify new markets and growth channels
* Develop capability across the team and set clear expectations, behaviours, and standards
* Oversee P&L, budgeting, forecasting, and governance with a strong focus on financial discipline
* Improve processes, structure, and efficiency to support a scalable and profitable operation
* Work closely with the ownership group and contribute to wider portfolio discussions
What Will Make You a Strong Fit for This Role:
* Commercial or sales background with progression into broader general management
* Experience selling and leading within industrial product or capital equipment manufacturing environments
* Strong exposure to SME scale up settings without complex corporate structures
* Financially literate with strong P&L management experience and a track record of delivering profitability
* Comfortable in a standalone sales leadership position where you will remain actively involved in the sales process
* Able to be onsite in Banbury for the majority of the working week
* Evidence of secure in house tenures that show sustained leadership and commercial delivery
* Resilient, pragmatic, and comfortable leading a business through change and scale up

* Primarily operational or non commercial leadership background
* Experience predominately within services rather than product sales
* Career spent solely within large corporate, consultancy, or matrix environments
* Seeking a leadership role focused on oversight rather than active customer engagement
* Preference for a remote desk based leadership style rather than hands on sales involvement
* Lack of experience in SME scale up settings
* Lack of experience within capital equipment or highly transferable industrial product environments
