What's involved with this role: JOB TITLE: Information Governance Support Officer - Part-time REF: NW Leicestershire 5274639 Pay rate: £18.50 to £20.00 per hour PAYE, dependent on experience Contract Type: Temporary, Anticipated 2 months Working Arrangement: Role is for 3 days per week - Part time, with 21 hours per week. The role: On behalf of a local council, we are seeking an Information Governance Support Officer to support the Council’s Legal Services Team and Data Protection Officer to ensure that the council meets its obligations in relation to data protection, freedom of information and information management. You will report to the Data Protection Officer. You should have previous experience in the field of Information Management and Freedom of Information, along with a good understanding of the role of Local Government and Strong knowledge of Data Protection Act 2018, UK GDPR, Freedom of Information Act, and related legislation, with experience supporting compliance across a public sector or large organisation. Key Responsibilities: Undertake information governance audits and advise on and manage business change projects to improve records management in the organisation Draft committee and CLT reports Regular contact with other services, residents and elected members Records Management duties – auditing storage areas, reviewing software, destruction of files Reviewing existing policies and create new policies where appropriate Conduct Information Sharing Agreement Reviews Conduct and support officers with Data Protection Impact Assessments Supporting ICT ensuring continued security of our information assets Supporting the Data Protection Officer and Legal Team where required Supporting in ensuring that the Council’s website and internal SharePoint page is up-to-date What the client is looking for: Previous experience in the field of Information Management and Freedom of Information Good understanding of the role of Local Government and the environment within which it operates Good communication skills (verbal and written) with networking, negotiation, influencing and ambassadorial skills Strong knowledge of Data Protection Act 2018, UK GDPR, Freedom of Information Act, and related legislation, with experience supporting compliance across a public sector or large organisation. Previous experience auditing, cataloguing, and reviewing storage systems (both digital and physical), managing retention schedules, and overseeing secure file destruction. Ability to review, draft, and implement information governance policies and procedures, ensuring they are practical, compliant, and aligned with organisational needs. Experience carrying out governance audits, producing clear and concise reports (including committee and CLT-level reports), and making recommendations for business change. Skilled in supporting and conducting Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) and Information Sharing Agreement reviews, ensuring risks are identified and mitigated effectively. Good understanding of information security principles, with experience working with ICT teams to ensure the continued protection of information assets. Excellent planning, organisational, and analytical skills, with the ability to prioritise multiple tasks and ensure governance obligations are met on time. Experience maintaining governance-related content on intranets (e.g., SharePoint) and council/public websites, ensuring accessibility and accuracy. Ability to support legal teams and Data Protection Officers with research, casework, and administrative functions in a fast-paced environment How to Apply Quote the Job Title and Reference Number in your application.
