Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced surgical nurse to join our team in the Pain Procedure Room at the Pain Management Centre.

The post holder will work as a member of the pain multi-disciplinary team in co-coordinating the pain theatre list, recovery of patients and will be trained to support pain procedures.

This vacancy would suit a experienced qualified Nurse who is looking to gain experience in a specialist theatre area in a small team that can provide a high level of mentoring and support on an on-going basis.

Main duties of the job

Independently manage a group of patients within the specialty whilst
working as part of the multidisciplinary team, delivering individualised and personalised direct patient care Demonstrate appropriate practice and specialist advice in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care.

This includes history taking, physical examination and the requesting of agreed diagnostic procedures/clinical investigations.

Responsible for the correct administration of prescribed medication

Be responsible for assessing and recognising emergencies in the
speciality. To interpret information and take appropriate action and to lead others to do the same.

Act as an advocate for patients within the department, to ensure a patient orientated approach to the delivery of care and to meet standards within the NHS Plan and other relevant guidelines.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Excellent communication and team working skills are essential as this post requires an appreciation of the complex issues facing patients with chronic pain; previous theatre experience/recovery is also preferable but not essential .

An ability to show initiative and understanding in providing support and care for these patients.

The post holder will be responsible for the assessment, planning and
provision of specialist nursing advice and carries out specialist nursing
procedures. The post holder will provide clinical supervision to other staff,
students and may undertake research, lead clinical audits in own specialist
area. Ensuring the safety and well being of services users, and always
working in a manner that promotes dignity and human rights through the
adoption of person centered care principles

Experience

Essential criteria

1. Previous post registration experience within the relevant specialty
2. Experiencing of co-ordinating a shift
3. Experience of teaching/assessing/ supervising others in a clinical setting.

Desirable criteria

4. Previous post registration experience within pain management

Skills

Essential criteria

5. Up to date knowledge of current clinical and professional issues. Knowledge of evidence based practice.
6. An understanding of audit and research based nursing practice

Qualification

Essential criteria

7. Post registration qualification in or demonstrate relevant experience and competence in theatres or pain management
8. BSC/1st degree (health related) or equivalent qualification/training and experience
9. Mentorship/Teaching Qualification

Desirable criteria

10. Theatre course
11. Leadership qualification ( LEO)
