This role is ideal for individuals who want to use their life experience, leadership skills and empathy to positively influence young people’s lives. Every day brings new challenges — but also the opportunity to make a lasting difference.

About the Role

As a Behaviour Support Mentor, you will work closely with students who may experience social, emotional and behavioural difficulties (SEMH). Your role will be to provide consistent guidance, encouragement and structure to help them remain engaged in education and develop positive coping strategies.

You will play a key role in supporting behaviour, emotional wellbeing and confidence, helping students build the skills they need to succeed both inside and outside the classroom.

Start Date: ASAP (opportunities available throughout the academic year)
Working Pattern: Monday – Friday, term time only
⏰ Typical Hours: 8:30am – 3:30pm (may vary depending on the school)

Key Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small group mentoring to students with behavioural, emotional or social needs
• Support pupils in developing positive behaviour, emotional regulation and social skills
• Build strong, trusting relationships that promote confidence and engagement
• Respond to challenging situations calmly and use de-escalation strategies when required
• Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs and pastoral staff to implement behaviour support plans
• Act as a positive role model and mentor, encouraging resilience, respect and self-belief
• Support students during lessons, transitions and structured activities throughout the school day

Psychology or Criminology graduates – applying theoretical knowledge in real-world settings
Social workers or support workers – experienced in behaviour support or trauma-informed approaches
️ Ex-military personnel – offering leadership, resilience and calm under pressure
‍ Youth workers, teaching assistants or mentors – experienced in supporting young people

If you have a genuine passion for helping young people overcome challenges and succeed, your background could be highly valuable in this role.
