Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant
Reports To: SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) / Classroom Teacher
Location: Walton-on-Thames
Job Summary:
We are looking for a compassionate and skilled SEN Teaching Assistant in Walton-on-Thames to support students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). As a SEN TA you will work closely with teachers and other professionals to provide tailored support that enables SEN students to access the curriculum and thrive socially and academically.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide one-to-one or small group support to SEN students to help them participate in classroom activities.
Assist in implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behaviour management plans.
Support communication, social, and emotional development of SEN students.
Help adapt learning materials and resources to meet the specific needs of SEN pupils.
Monitor and report on progress and challenges, providing feedback to teachers and SENCO.
Support students during personal care and physical needs, where necessary.
Promote independence and confidence in SEN students.
Assist with preparing classroom environments and resources.
Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and parents to deliver consistent support.
Qualifications and Skills:
Experience working with children with SEND is essential.
Knowledge of different SEN conditions and teaching strategies.
Patience, empathy, and strong communication skills.
Ability to follow detailed plans and adapt support to individual needs.
Relevant qualifications or training in SEN support (e.g., Level 2/3 SEN diploma) desirable.
