We are currently seeking an experienced AMHP who is motivated by crisis work, statutory practice, and multi‑agency collaboration, this is an exciting opportunity for an individual who shares our values and commitment, to join our team. As an AMHP, you will:
1. Coordinate and undertake MHA assessments, acting as a Single Point of Access on the rota, and ensuring all statutory requirements are met. Explore alternatives to detention, working collaboratively with CRHT, primary care, housing, inpatient services and social care colleagues.
2. Prepare and complete statutory reports, including Social Circumstances Reports, Tribunal and Hospital Managers’ reports.
3. Contribute to the management of complex cases, including s117 aftercare, displacement of nearest relatives, legal statements for Court, and Ministry of Justice responsibilities where required.
4. Promote strengths‑based, recovery‑focused, least restrictive options, always working in partnership with individuals, carers and professionals.
5. Maintain high‑quality electronic and written records in line with statutory and organisational requirements.
We are seeking a skilled and committed Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) to join our well‑established and high-performing Community Mental Health Teams. As an AMHP in NPT, you will play a pivotal role in the delivery of safe, lawful and person‑centred Mental Health Act (MHA) interventions
Your daily routine will also include:
Supporting best practice development by participating in governance activity, AMHP forums, peer supervision and ongoing professional development.
Do you have:
6. Substantial experience working within a mental health setting and confidence operating in high‑risk, fast‑moving environments.
7. Comprehensive knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983, the MHA Code of Practice, Mental Health (Wales) Measure 2010, Social Services & Well‑being (Wales) Act 2014, MCA and DoLS.
8. Ability to apply legal reasoning, prepare statutory documentation, and provide clear, defensible professional judgements.
9. Strong analytical, decision‑making and communication skills, with the ability to work with complexity, competing demands and sensitive situations.
10. A positive, “can‑do” attitude, adaptability, and a commitment to professional integrity, equality, diversity and high‑quality public service.
11. Registration as a Social Worker with Social Care Wales and current AMHP approval.
