Public Health Staff Nurse/ Staff Midwife
North Tyneside Council are recruiting staff nurses/staff midwives to work within the 0-19 Children’s Public Health Service. Successful applicants will be given the opportunity to apply in the future, to the SCPHN Programme or Apprenticeship Programme with a view to become a qualified Health Visitor or School Nurse.

This is your chance to work with an outstanding group of safeguarding and health professionals. The service has close working relationships with the early help service, multiagency safeguarding hub (MASH), education, housing, primary care, midwifery services and sport and leisure, which ensures good outcomes for families and provides positive working relationships for staff. The Signs of Safety model is embedded throughout the service and robust safeguarding supervision is provided to staff by Safeguarding Nurse Advisors.
North Tyneside Childrens Social Care has been graded Outstanding by Ofsted in 2025.
Staff are provided with support and supervision from the Nurse Manager throughout their probationary period and beyond and have access to an identified preceptor.
A qualified staff nurse/staff midwife with knowledge of current issues relating to public health priorities and an understanding of the national drivers with regards to providing a 0-19 service is required. A CQC inspection of the service in May 2023 recognised areas of outstanding practice and acknowledged managers drive for continuous improvement. The service was reaccredited in 2025 with the UNICEF Baby Friendly Gold Award and is supported by a Specialist Infant Feeding Team.
The post holder will support the delivery of the healthy child programme within the context of integrated prevention and early help locality teams. They will ensure that the universal offer is delivered to all children aged 0‑19. Additional support and targeted interventions will be offered to those families where additional need is identified. 0‑19 Staff use Chathealth and ParentLine, a confidential texting service, as additional support for the families in North Tyneside.
The essential requirements of the post are: Registered Nurse / Adult / Child / Mental Health or Registered Midwife and the ability to meet the travel requirements of the post.
The 0‑19 service offers opportunity for career progression and provides an atmosphere of continuous professional development with supervision and assessment of pre and post registration students.
The staff nurse/staff midwife is a member of the 0‑19 Children’s Public Health Service within a locality team. The post holder will promote and protect the health and well‑being of children, young people and their families from the ante‑natal period through to age 19 and address inequalities. Fundamental to the aim of the service is universal access to the healthy child programme and early identification of additional and/or complex needs.
Essential Criteria
* Registered Nurse / Adult / Child / Mental Health or Registered Midwife
* Current NMC registration.
* Relevant and recent nursing experience
* Knowledge of current issues relating to public health priorities and addressing inequalities in outcomes.
* Understanding of adult/child safeguarding procedures
* Understanding the national drivers with regards to providing a 0‑19 service
