1st Class Sheet Metal Mechanic
Purpose:
Colonna's Shipyard is seeking a 1st Class Sheet Metal Mechanic to support our shipyard operations in Norfolk, VA.
Responsibilities
1. Perform all tasks associated with lower classman.
2. Layout all joiner inclusive of bulkheads, doors, ceilings, shelving, furniture, consoles, and all attachments from drawings, work orders, or verbal instructions with supervision.
3. Prefab/install joiner bulkheads, doors, ceilings, shelving, furniture, consoles, and all attachments with limited to no supervision.
4. Perform interference removal/re-install from drawings, work orders or verbal instruction with limited to no supervision.
5. Run metal and operate break and shear.
6. Measure and install duct/fitting.
7. Mount and install equipment.
8. Lay out hangers and duct etc.
9. Maintain functional working knowledge of blueprints and construction information.
10. Monitor working environment and surroundings for compliance with quality, safety, environmental and health regulations.
11. May be assigned to work any shift.
12. May be assigned additional tasks including outside the craft as required by company needs.
Qualifications:
13. Must have at least seven (7) years of sheet metal/outfitting experience.
14. Must have knowledge of and ability to use hand tools and instruments associated with trade.
15. Must be able to work effectively with others.
16. Must be able to comprehend blueprints, sketches, and templates.
17. Must be able to enter and move through manholes to reach and work in internally confined spaces.
18. Must have working knowledge of practices, methods, materials, and equipment used in Sheet Metal, Joinery, and HVAC.
19. Must have regular, reliable attendance.
Security Requirements:
20. Must be a US Citizen.
21. Must be eligible to obtain and maintain access to government installations (DBIDS).
Desired Qualifications:
22. Technical training preferred.
Travel Requirements:
23. Minimal Travel; 10% or less.
Physical Requirements:
24. Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 20 lbs.
25. Must be physically agile to perform tasks in naval ships. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces, including enter and moving through manholes.
26. May ride ships at sea for extended periods
27. Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels.
28. Frequent exposure to noise due to machinery and equipment.
29. Employee is required to operate trucks, forklifts & man-lifts.
30. While performing the duties of this job, you may frequently be required to stand, walk & sit; use hands or fingers; handle or feel; talk and hear. Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, climb and balance, stoop, squat, kneel, twist and crawl.
31. Work in extreme temperatures and conditions. At times you will work in areas that have less adequate ventilation
32. Frequent use of respirator.
33. Protective clothing or equipment and face shields or goggles shall be worn when welding, cutting, or working with molten metal.
