Overview
2026 Graduate Programme - Environment - Geotechnical Engineering at WSP. We are looking for graduates to join our Geotechnics & Tunnelling teams who specialise in characterising ground conditions, identifying ground risk and producing low carbon designs to mitigate those risks. The programme is two years, designed to support personal and professional development through a blended learning experience and on-the-job exposure.
Responsibilities
* Work on innovative projects across renewable energy, infrastructure, housing, marine, tunnelling, commercial developments and healthcare, gaining hands-on experience throughout the project life cycle.
* Engage in site work and travel within the UK, Ireland, and occasionally overseas.
* Produce accurate ground models using digital tools and support the design of foundations, retaining walls, slopes, and other geotechnical structures.
* Learn about foundation and ground improvement techniques to manage ground risk and enable safe, sustainable construction.
* Witness ground investigations in the field and contribute to data manipulation and plotting for site characterisation and design support.
* Prepare geotechnical reports, risk assessments, drawings and design documentation.
* Collaborate within multidisciplinary teams and be mentored by experienced engineers to develop practical, innovative solutions.
What We Expect You To Demonstrate
* You will have graduated with at least a 2:2 in a master’s or bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject for the role.
* You should be willing to travel occasionally and engage with site work, explaining geology and ground conditions in the UK.
* You will have an interest in Geology, Engineering Geology and their role in Civil engineering projects.
* You will demonstrate collaboration, a willingness to learn, and a drive to solve problems with creativity.
* You will have a good understanding of soil and rock mechanics and an enthusiasm for new ideas.
* You will be pursuing or committed to professional accreditation (e.g., chartership) and continuing development.

* Graduates in the following locations: Glasgow, Newcastle, Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, Cardiff, Bristol, Hertford, London, Guildford, Southampton & Exeter and UK Wide.
Your Development
Our two-year Graduate Development programme supports personal and professional development through core business and professional skills training, career development workshops, mentoring for professional registration, and on-the-job experience. We encourage chartership with bodies such as ICE and CGeol or IOM3, with support for training agreements.
