Job Overview
North Bristol NHS Trust is looking for a dedicated, enthusiastic Healthcare Support Worker to join the Cardiology team on 27A. The role supports multidisciplinary cardiology care, ensuring patient comfort, privacy, and dignity while performing nursing tasks and basic patient care.
Main Duties
* Assist patients with comfort, mobility, and personal care such as washing, dressing, toileting, and feeding.
* Perform basic health checks – blood pressure, oxygen saturation, temperature, pulse, respiration, glucose, and sample collection (urine, faecal, sputum, wound swabs).
* Support patient assessment, documentation, and escalation of concerns to appropriate staff.
* Maintain accurate records and facility health‑related policies, including infection control.
* Provide care in a state‑of‑the‑art hospital environment and manage tasks within a supervised or semi‑supervised framework.
* Work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends and bank holidays.
Person Specification
Work experience and essential criteria:
* Minimum 12 months' experience in health or social care.
* Prior support‑worker role preferred.
* Ability to work as part of a team, with good time‑management and prioritisation skills.
* Committed to a caring approach with patients and relatives.
Qualifications / Training
* Level 3 RQF/SCQF, City & Guilds 3, NVQ 3, BTEC National Diploma, or equivalent experience of at least 12 months.
* GCSE grade A- – C (grade 4 and above) or equivalent in English and Maths.
* Completion of Level 3 Diploma in Healthcare Support (mapping to the Apprenticeship Standard for Senior Health Care Support Worker).
Skills and Abilities
* Effective written and verbal communication.
* Basic IT skills – Word, email, keyboard.
* Ability to work independently to a high standard.
Application will be on the NHS banding scale; progression by annual increments. The successful applicant(s) will commence at the minimum level unless prior NHS experience at the same band is demonstrated.
