Stewarts is a family-owned business established in 1742 with a history that can be tracked back eight generations.

We have three Garden Centres, a Nursery and a Landscaping division, all based in Dorset and Hampshire; our Garden centres are in Christchurch, Broomhill and Titchfield. We also have a central warehouse and Head Office based in Christchurch.

We are seeking a Manager to oversee the Outdoor Plants department within our Abbey Garden Centre in Titchfield, Fareham. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in retail management, a passion for plants and gardening, excellent leadership skills and a commitment to providing outstanding customer service.

Responsibilities

* Manage the smooth running of your department.
* Recruit the right people and manage the performance and deployment of staff within your department.
* Identify and manage all issues relating to stock ensuring that it is kept at an appropriate level for the season.
* Ensure the consistency of product, range and price is in line with those set by the buyers.
* Identify opportunities to increase sales in your department and across the centre.
* Contribute to the planning of space and seasonal changes within your department.
* Implement planned changes within your department.
* Ensure display presentation, pricing and signage are attractive to our customers.
* Organise and manage stocktakes, stock turn, markdowns and wastage within your department.
* Contribute to the smooth running of events.
* Provide excellent customer service, engaging with customers and encouraging feedback.
* Maintain fixtures, fittings, equipment and materials within your department.
* Authorise and process invoices efficiently.
* Ensure compliance with Health & Safety procedures.

Candidate Requirements

* A passion for plants and gardening.
* Proven experience in a garden centre or retail setting.
* Excellent leadership and team management skills.
* Outstanding customer service and communication skills.
* Able to work an average of 40 hours per week including alternate weekends.
