As a Fleet Technician, you will be working as part of a team in the largest workshop in the West, Under the supervision of the Fleet Hub Controller, you will provide the provision of a vehicle maintenance and repair service using skilled labour in a vehicle hub and mobile environment. Mentor new staff/apprentices. The fleet department acts as a vital link between the fleet department and the divisional officers / users.
Key Responsibilities of the Fleet Technician are as follows:
Generally, commission, maintain, service and repair vehicles and plant, to police standards, as directed by a Fleet Hub Controller/Senior Technician/Line Manager.
Carry out safety inspections of vehicles including road test of vehicles, diagnostic test of faults and identification of defects.
Carry out preventative vehicle maintenance including scheduled vehicle servicing and pre MOT checks. Attend vehicle breakdowns, carry out mobile maintenance, on-site repairs and recovery of vehicles.
Carry out vehicle repairs including fault rectification, replacing components and fitting tyres.
Carry out statutory testing of vehicles including preparation work for car MOT tests, preparation work for HGV annual tests.
Carry out statutory testing of mechanical, electrical and electronic components of vehicles.
Commission and de-commission vehicles including preparation for sale.
Install, develop and commission emergency warning and control systems to Police Scotland specification.
Provide mentorship and support to newly appointed staff and apprentices, advising, quality checking and approving work as directed by the Fleet Hub controller or Line Manager.
Install compliant vehicle livery to Police Scotland specification.
Complete documentation on work carried out including job sheets, service sheets, MOT inspection sheets, productivity/daily time sheets, stores requisitions, etc
Essential key skills required for the role of Fleet Technician:
Motor Vehicle Related Apprenticeship/City and Guilds Motor Vehicle (mechanical/electrical) Technicians 1 and 2 or equivalent.
OR
Proven experience in a motor vehicle workshop environment with a public or private sector operation, in a vehicle maintenance environment.
Educational/Occupational Desirable
IMI Level 3 award in Electric/Hybrid vehicle system repair and replacement.
Personal Qualities Essential
Able to work on own initiative as well as part of a team.
Ability to make quick decision based on information available at time.
Good communication skills both written and oral. Able to prioritise workloads.
Up to date knowledge of health and safety within a vehicle workshops.
Previous experience in main dealership or similar type organisation.
Driving License is essential for this role
All driving licence categories up to and including C+E.

This is a full time and permanent role, offering 35 hours per week (Monday-Friday 0800-1600)
