About the Role
The Health & Safety Advisor is responsible for ensuring workplace safety by developing policies, conducting risk assessments and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations. Reporting to the Health & Safety Manager, you will help develop health and safety advice for AEGON UK, delivering clear, expert advice on health, safety and environmental matters across the business. You will support operational teams by ensuring effective implementation of health, safety and wellbeing strategies across a regional remit, drive proactive safety measures, ensure legal and ISO compliance, promote a strong safety culture and support continuous improvement across multiple contracts and sites.
Key Responsibilities
* DSE assessments (face to face & via Teams).
* First Aider support (to First Aiders at all sites).
* Mental Health First Aid support (to MHFA at all sites).
* Fire Warden support (to FW at all sites, evacuation de‑briefs).
* Fire Evacuation organisation (de‑brief, feedback review).
* Monitor SharePoint applications; workstation assessment, self‑assessments, report accidents, young people and work experience students, eyecare applications.
* Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses to identify risks and implement preventative actions.
* Collaborate with site managers and supervisors to maintain a safe and compliant working environment.
* Create Risk Assessments and coordinate the Risk Assessment register.
* Coordinate Evac chair training sessions.
* Participate in the tri‑annual H&S Steering group.
* Participate in the First Aider & MHFA forum.
* Pregnant Worker Risk Assessments.
* Ensure a consistent approach to health and safety standards across all sites.
* Promote a strong safety culture, and support continuous improvement across multiple contracts and sites.
* Carry out site safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments; report findings and track corrective actions.
Hiring Criteria
* A recognised Health and Safety qualification, such as NEBOSH or equivalent (highly desirable).
* H&S experience in a similar role.
* Knowledge of ISO certifications and auditing systems.
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to positively influence others.
* Excellent influencing and coaching capabilities.
* Excellent problem‑solving abilities.
* Attention to detail and strong report‑writing skills.
* A proactive and solutions‑focused mindset.
* Ability to work independently and manage priorities across multiple sites.
* Experience in DSE.
* Strong knowledge of current health and safety legislation and how to apply it in practical settings.
Recruitment Note
Due to its wide geographical remit, this role may require ad‑hoc site visits around the UK.
