Job Description : - Administer preliminary testing and measurements to assess patients' vision and eye health. - Administer topical ophthalmic or oral medications under the direction of the physician. - Prepare patients for examinations by explaining procedures and ensuring their comfort. - Assist ophthalmologists during examinations, treatments, and surgical procedures. Sets up and cleans up procedures. - Acts as scribe while the physician examines patient, entering data into electronic medical records or paper chart. - Maintain and operate ophthalmic equipment, ensuring it is clean and functioning properly. - Document patients’ medical history and examination results accurately in electronic health records. - Provide patient education on eye health, treatment plans, and post-operative care. - Schedule appointments and manage patient flow efficiently. - Orders supplies. - Assists in training of other ophthalmic technicians. - Complies with all practice procedures and protocols. Acts in accordance with all State and Federal regulations. - Maintains positive attitude consisting of cooperation, self-motivation, courtesy, and professionalism. - Potential for travel between hospital and satellite clinics. Required: - High school diploma or GED - Must be able to travel between hospital and satellite clinics as needed Preferred: - Associate's degree in ophthalmic technology or related field. - Previous experience in an ophthalmic setting and familiarity with ophthalmic medical equipment. - Proficiency in medical terminology, coding, and billing procedures. - Basic math, including multiplication, and computer skills, typing a minimum of 25 words per minute. - Experience in a medical office or health care setting. Licenses / Certifications / Registrations \: Currently certified as a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology preferred.
