The General Counsel team is at the heart of the AXA business. As a Solicitor, reporting to our Chief Counsel for AXA Health, you’ll support the Health business through the provision of customer focussed and commercial legal services, advice and assistance. You’ll ensure Group planning and decision-making processes are appropriately informed and that legal, financial and reputational risks are managed.
At AXA we work smart, empowering our people to balance their time between home and the office in a way that works best for them, their team and our customers. You'll work at least 40% of your week away from home, moving to the majority of your working week from September 2025. Away from home means either attendance at London office, visiting clients or attending industry events.
What you’ll be doing:
1. Provide legal services and advice (including drafting/approving documentation) to business management.
2. Liaising with external providers to ensure legal considerations and risks are appropriately managed.
3. Identify, analyse and resolve proposals by business management likely to give rise to contraventions of the law, safeguarding the legal, financial and reputational standing of the Group.
4. Direct and indirect responsibility for external legal spend up to agreed limits.
5. Provide seminars, reports and training, within the remit of the Legal Department, to ensure that the relevant staff are provided with understanding and competence to perform their roles.
6. Monitor, analyse and report on current and potential developments in the law, and the Group’s products and documentation, anticipating legal implications for the Group.
7. Brief, educate, coach and advise business colleagues, to ensure that risks are managed, and that effective systems and processes continue to be developed.
8. Monitor and implement Group risk policies.
What you’ll bring:
9. Solicitor or Barrister with years PQE.
10. Commercial law/ contracts experience and preferably some industry knowledge but not essential
11. Ability to present complex legal information clearly, accurately and in a way that can be understood by the relevant audience.
12. Technical expertise and flexibility, combined with a sound commercial sense and the ability to make pragmatic decisions.
13. Influencing skills.
14. Strong planning and organising skills.
15. Professional and objective approach to work.
16. Good team player within own and larger team.
