As Head of Healthcare at Manston STHF, you will lead and develop a high-quality, person-centred service within a secure setting. This is a key leadership role, responsible for ensuring safe, effective, and equitable care, fostering strong stakeholder relationships, and acting as the CQC Registered Manager for the service. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams, site leadership, and external partners to embed robust governance, drive clinical excellence, and create a culture of continuous improvement. Key Responsibilities Leadership & Governance Provide visible and effective leadership to the healthcare team. Act as the CQC Registered Manager, ensuring full compliance with governance frameworks and regulatory standards. Identify, manage, and mitigate departmental risks across clinical, operational, financial, reputation, compliance, and workforce domains. Maintain the healthcare risk register in partnership with the Head of Clinical Operations. Lead on clinical incident management, promoting a learning culture and ensuring robust reporting (e.g., SI, Radar, medicines errors). Ensure infection prevention and control standards are consistently met. People, Performance & Training Oversee recruitment of clinical staff and ensure comprehensive clinical and security induction for new starters. Ensure clinical supervision is available, with supervisors appropriately trained. Monitor and support training delivery aligned with the Health Development Plan and skills needs analysis. Drive strong performance and attendance management within the team. Recognize and celebrate good performance, supporting a culture of engagement and retention. Stakeholder & Partnership Working Build effective working relationships across the site, with the Operator, and with key external stakeholders. Actively participate in senior forums including: Partnership Board Clinical Governance Board LDQB Healthcare QCRM Medicines Management Meetings Other SMT-level groups Quality, Safety & Audit Promote patient safety and service quality through robust processes and continuous improvement. Ensure compliance with information governance requirements. Drive progress against NHSE performance metrics, CQC action plans, and clinical audit findings. Embed ongoing clinical audit across multiple domains. Accountability Improved staff engagement, recruitment, and retention. Robust performance and attendance management. Active patient engagement with feedback informing service improvements. Timely, high-quality PDR completion. Strong cross-site and cross-organisational relationships. Embedded culture of service improvement and clinical excellence. Effective management of complaints, incidents, and audit outcomes, with evidence of positive change. Effective CPD planning and delivery for all clinical staff. Safe, well-inducted workforce operating within both clinical and security frameworks. Proactive risk management and balanced approach to security and care. Essential Criteria Senior Nurse Manager/Senior Manager experience, ideally in a prison/secure healthcare environment. Registered Nurse (Adult) with current NMC registration. Strong moral compass and commitment to value-based leadership. Solid understanding of clinical governance. Ability to apply sound judgement in a complex, politicised environment. Effective networking skills across agencies and organisations. Commitment to ongoing professional development. Desirable Criteria Knowledge of commercial/financial management processes. Experience in risk management. Experience with SystmOne or similar clinical IT systems. Budget management knowledge. Educated to degree or masters level. General Information Duties are subject to reasonable adjustment and periodic review. You may be asked to undertake additional responsibilities appropriate to the role.
