Founding events lead (fractional)

London
The Generalist Company Ltd

Offer description

πŸ” At a Glance

Who we are: We're Plugged β€” a vibrant community of wickedly ambitious founders who work harder, play harder, and turn strangers into lifelong friends. We design experiences where serendipity isn't accidental β€” it's engineered. From underground dinner parties to house parties with secret rooms, we're redefining what founder events can be.

Who you are: You're the kind of person who gets a rush from nailing the details AND creating unforgettable moments. You can plan a 100-person summit and remember to stock the hidden Wii console. You think in vibes, execute in spreadsheets, and believe magic is made when you care about everything from the lighting to the bins. You want to own the entire experience β€” and make it pay.

🏒 About Us

Plugged exists to create environments where founders find their best friends in the grind.

In a world where most events are transactional and over-produced, we design spaces that feel different β€” where the full spectrum of someone's humanity can show up. We've run everything from 10-person dinners to flagship retreats. We've proven the model. Now we're ready to scale it, systematize it, and turn it into a revenue engine.

Our philosophy:

* Magic is the glue β€” The "How the f*ck have they done this?" feeling

* Design for the least amongst β€” We design for the shy one who almost didn't come

* Vibe is the infrastructure β€” Shared experiences > forced networking

🎨 The Role

This is your chance to take the reins of Plugged's entire events function at exactly the right moment β€” when everything's in place to scale, but before the playbook is written.

You'll be leading 2–6 events per month, managing everything from member mixers and co-founder sprints to high-signal summits and house parties. You’ll take loose event concepts and turn them into concrete, executable plans β€” translating "wouldn't it be cool if..." into detailed playbooks, budgets, and timelines. You’ll own logistics, vendors, guest comms, and make it all feel effortless. Most importantly, you’ll turn events into a commercial powerhouse, driving membership sales, partnerships revenue, and ticket income.

This is a founding-level role starting as a fractional contract, with progression to full-time permanent for strong performers. We're giving both of us the flexibility to assess fit and impact, but if you crush it, there's a clear path to owning this function permanently.

This is not an assistant or junior producer role. This is for someone who gets the vision, loves the detail, and wants to own the vibe, the flow, the system, and the revenue.

If you've ever thought, "I want to design the world's most interesting rooms, make sure they're profitable, and then make sure the bins are emptied before anyone arrives," β€” this is your role.

πŸ‘Ž Bad News

This role isn't right for you if…

* This is a fractional, contract role β€” not a permanent position from day one (though it can become one)

* You only want to work remotely and avoid in-person coordination

* You dislike fast-paced, high-ownership environments where you're spinning multiple plates

* You avoid ambiguity or need constant structure handed to you

* You're uncomfortable with commercial targets or being measured on revenue outcomes

* You don't believe in the magic

βœ… Good News

You'll love this role if…

* You're excited by the challenge of building a commercially sustainable events engine from the ground up

* You're both strategic and hands-on β€” able to design a 12-month calendar and run sound checks on the day

* You thrive when you're trusted to own your process and make big calls

* You get energy from creating experiences that people remember for years

* You love the idea of events that actually make money (not just cost it)

* You want to prove yourself in a high-impact role with a clear path to permanent employment β€” do great work, and this becomes your full-time gig

🎯 Your Mission

As Plugged's Founding Events Lead, your mission is to transform our events from founder-led magic into a scalable, profitable events engine that:

* Drives meaningful revenue from events (tickets, sponsorships, partnerships)

* Converts 30%+ of event attendees into members or partners

* Delivers 2–6 flawless experiences per month

* Creates systems and processes that work without you being the bottleneck

Your mission is to make events the commercial engine of Plugged while keeping the magic alive.

πŸ“ˆ What Success Looks Like

To evaluate success in this role, we'll be tracking performance using the following metrics:

Events Revenue: Monthly revenue from ticket sales, sponsorships, and partnerships driven by events

Attendee-to-Member Conversion: Percentage of event attendees who become paying Plugged members within 90 days

Event Delivery: Number of events executed per month (target: 2-6) delivered on time and on budget

Event NPS: Net Promoter Score from post-event surveys (target: 60+)

Budget Management: Events delivered within or under budget as % of total events

Partnership Revenue: B2B partnership revenue attributed to events experiences

Repeat Attendance: % of attendees who return to multiple events (community retention indicator).

We'll use a mix of qualitative feedback (what people are saying about the experience) and hard performance data (did this event make us money and grow the community?) to assess your impact.

πŸ›  Duties & Responsibilities

This is a broad, high-ownership role. You'll:

πŸ“‹ Logistics & Operations

* Transform loose concepts into concrete event plans β€” take "what if we did X?" and turn it into venue shortlists, budgets, guest lists, and run-of-show

* Build and maintain event runbooks, timelines, and systems for repeatable formats

* Source venues, vendors, equipment, and contractors

* Manage event budgets, invoicing, and cost efficiency

* Create scalable SOPs for monthly mixers, quarterly summits, and one-off experiences

* Own contingency planning and on-the-day troubleshooting

🎨 Experience & Flow

* Own every touchpoint from invite to post-event follow-up

* Work with the team to layer in "magic moments" β€” easter eggs, surprise guests, interactive elements

* Set up spaces that feel alive, safe, energizing, and unforgettable

* Think like a film director: lighting, signage, sensory design, pacing

πŸ’° Commercial Enablement

* Design events that drive membership conversions, partnership deals, and ticket revenue

* Track and optimize ROI for each event format

* Build sponsorship packages and partnership activations into flagship events

* Create systematic follow-up sequences that convert attendees into members

* Identify and execute on commercial opportunities within events

πŸ“£ Coordination & Communication

* Create clear internal docs (run-of-show, setup guides, contact lists)

* Liaise with partners, collaborators, and speakers

* Track RSVPs, manage guest lists, own comms flow

* Coordinate content capture (photographers, videographers, social media)

πŸ“Š Growth & Optimization

* Test new event formats and track what drives the best outcomes

* Build dashboards that show event performance at a glance

* Document processes to make them repeatable and scalable

* Eventually hire and manage a small events team as we scale

🧩 What You'll Bring

We're looking for someone who brings energy and blends creativity with commercial savvy and flawless execution. You've got the ideas, the operational chops, and you're driven by impact and results.

Mindset

* A founder-like sense of ownership over outcomes

* Comfort working in ambiguity and creating clarity

* Commercial mindset β€” you understand events as a revenue driver, not just a cost center

* Curiosity to test, learn, and adapt quickly

Skills & Expertise

* Proven track record building or scaling an events function (2-5+ years)

* Ability to translate vision into execution β€” you can take a loose concept ("intimate founder dinner with surprise element") and turn it into a full event plan with venue, budget, playbook, and timeline

* Strong understanding of event economics: ticket pricing, sponsorship models, budget management

* Ability to use data to inform decisions and optimize performance

* KPI tracking and ROI analysis β€” you're comfortable being measured on revenue and conversion

* Experience creating systems, dashboards, or processes that improve team performance

Experience

* Running events across different formats (intimate dinners, large-scale conferences, experiential activations)

* Managing event budgets from Β£2k to Β£50k+

* Working with vendors, venues, and partners in fast-moving environments

* Driving commercial outcomes from events (membership sales, sponsorships, partnerships)

* High-agency early-stage startup or founder roles

* Direct experience with community-building through events

Traits & Approach

* Resourceful, hands-on, and proactive

* Clear communicator who can align a team around shared goals

* Results-focused without losing sight of the experience

* You're a translator β€” you can hear "let's do a house party with secret rooms" and immediately start thinking: capacity, venue options, budget brackets, vendor shortlist, guest flow, contingencies

* Magnetic, competent, detail-obsessed, and genuinely driven by good vibes

* A calm operator with a hospitality brain and startup instincts

* People describe you as: "The one who just gets it done"

* You're organized but never uptight

* Creative, quick on your feet, and low-ego

* A mix of producer, host, logistics manager, and secret sauce

* A little bit nuts (in the best way)

🌟 Nice to Haves

You don't need to tick every box to apply β€” but if you have any of these, we'll be extra excited to hear from you:

* Experience with community-led events or membership organizations

* Familiarity with the startup/founder ecosystem in London

* Background in hospitality, brand experience, or event production agencies

* Experience creating sponsorship decks or partnership packages

* Hands-on experience with event tech, CRM, and analytics tools (Eventbrite, Luma, Airtable, Notion)

* You've run your own events β€” even side projects or passion projects

πŸ’« Our Values, and Yours

We're building a company and community that reflects the kind of world we want to live in. That starts with who we are, how we work, and what we believe in.

You'll thrive here if you value:

* Tenacity β€” You don't quit at the first hurdle. You go again and jump higher.

* Wicked Ambition β€” You want to build something massive and meaningful

* Bias Towards Action β€” You'd rather test it and learn than over-plan and wait

* Work Harder, Play Harder β€” You bring your whole self and help others do the same

* Collaboration over Competition β€” You like winning with others, not over them

* Doing the Right Thing β€” Even when it's harder or costs more

What this means for you:

You're not just here to run logistics. You're here to contribute to a values-aligned team that's building with intention. You bring heart to your craft, and you're motivated by more than just the next event β€” you're motivated by creating experiences that change people's trajectories.

🎁 What You'll Get

We believe in rewarding great work and giving you what you need to succeed. You'll get:

* Founding Team Positioning β€” You're not joining an established function, you're building it

* Autonomy and Impact β€” You'll own the events function and shape its future from day one

* Direct Access to Founders β€” Work closely with the founding team on strategy and execution

* Commercial Upside β€” Performance bonuses tied to revenue and conversion targets

* Free Plugged Membership β€” 24/7 access to our Shoreditch workspace, events, and community

* Flexibility β€” Hybrid working (in-person for events, remote for planning) with fractional hours

* Clear Path to Permanent Role β€” Prove the impact, and this becomes your full-time career with equity potential

* Exposure β€” Work directly with inspiring founders, investors, and partners

* Career Growth β€” As we scale, you'll build and lead an events team (Head of Events & Experiences)

* Event Recovery Days β€” Because we know running events is intense

* Friends for Life β€” You'll be part of the journeys of hundreds of founders

πŸ• Hours & Location

* Contract Type: Fractional contract role, starting at 2 days per week

* Hours: Flexible, but expect some evenings/weekends around events

* Location: Hybrid β€” London-based, mostly Shoreditch Exchange

* Event Presence: In-person attendance required for all Plugged events

* Equipment & Travel: Provided when needed

* Progression: Strong performers will be offered a full-time, permanent position as we scale

πŸ’Έ Remuneration

Contract Structure:

* Day Rate: Β£300 - Β£400 per day (depending on experience)

* Starting Commitment: 2 days per week

* Monthly Estimate: Β£2,400 - Β£3,200

Performance Bonuses:

* Quarterly bonuses tied to event revenue, membership conversions, and event NPS

* Potential to earn an additional 15-25% on top of day rate through performance bonuses

Progression:

* Deliver excellent results, and we'll offer you a full-time, permanent position with competitive salary, continued performance bonuses, and equity options as we grow

We're open to discussing the right structure based on your experience and availability.

πŸ§ͺ Interview Process

We keep things straightforward and respectful of your time. Here's how we'll get to know each other:

1. Application Review (1-2 days)

We'll review your application, portfolio, or examples of events you've run.

2. Intro Call (30-45 mins)

A casual conversation to learn about your background, how you work, and what excites you about this role.

3. Practical Task (2-3 hours, paid)

We'll give you a real brief (e.g., design a 50-person mixer that converts to memberships, with budget and runbook) to see how you think and plan.

4. Final Interview (60 mins)

Meet the founders. We'll discuss your task, walk through your process, and explore how you'd scale the events function.

5. Offer & Onboarding

If it's a fit, we'll move quickly. We value decisiveness and clarity.

We move fast and communicate clearly β€” you'll never be left wondering where you stand.

πŸ“– Summary

This is your chance to step into an events leadership role at a company with a magnetic community, a differentiated philosophy, and a team that's ready to scale. If you want impact, ownership, and the freedom to shape how a community grows through experiences β€” we should talk.

This is not just about running events. It's about creating the rooms where impossible things become possible.
