Overview
Applications are invited for a permanent, full‑time Lectureship in Forestry (Teaching and Scholarship) in the School of Environmental and Natural Sciences at Bangor University. The successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, run tutorials and field courses, and support forestry degree courses and project students.
Purpose of the Job
The Lecturer in Forestry will teach aspects of the forestry curriculum, contribute to the MSc Forestry programme, and progress into a leadership role within the programme.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
* Plan, prepare and deliver lectures, tutorials and field trips on a wide range of topics.
* Motivate students and provide constructive feedback.
* Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research projects.
* Act as personal tutor for postgraduate students and provide pastoral support.
* Contribute to the development, delivery and quality assurance of postgraduate curricula.
* Maintain an excellent standard of teaching as indicated by peer observation, quality assessment and student feedback.
* Work collaboratively with colleagues within the School and College.
* Progress into a leadership role in the MSc Forestry degree programme, developing the programme to meet changing student and industry needs.
* Develop and coordinate modules as required.
* Attend relevant board meetings.
* Carry out other management and administrative duties as specified by the Head of School.
* Participate in performance reviews and developmental activities.

Person Specification
Qualifications / Training (Essential):
* A PhD (or near completion) in forestry/forest science or a related discipline.
Qualifications / Training (Desirable):
* Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (PGCertHE) or equivalent.
* Professional membership of the Institute of Chartered Foresters or equivalent.
Experience / Knowledge (Essential):
* Excellent working knowledge of UK forestry and woodland management.
* Experience teaching in higher education, further education or equivalent.
Experience / Knowledge (Desirable):
* Experience of forestry practice outside the UK.
* Active engagement with UK forestry industry stakeholders.
* Experience of module development and delivery in higher education.
* Experience of online and blended teaching.
* Experience supervising undergraduate and postgraduate research projects.
* Working with culturally diverse student groups.
* Evidence of scholarship in learning and teaching through publications.
Skills / Abilities (Essential):
* Excellent understanding of forestry.
* Ability and enthusiasm to teach in classroom, field and online.
* Initiative, motivation, and enthusiasm for facilitating learning.
* Willingness to contribute to administrative activities.
* Interpersonal skills to engage effectively with staff.
* Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams.
* Capacity for pastoral care and support of student diversity.
* Positive outlook in a bilingual Welsh environment (no Welsh requirement).
Skills / Abilities (Desirable):
* Record of innovative, excellent teaching in higher education.
* Familiarity with quality assurance, student recruitment and pastoral care issues in Welsh and UK higher education.
