UHN Estates Development Capital Project Manager

Are you an experienced project manager with a passion for delivering high‑quality healthcare estates projects?
These are exciting times for UHN with major projects commencing on both main sites, new off‑site locations and the total site development of Kettering General Hospital as part of the New Hospitals Programme.
We are recruiting full‑time Capital Project Managers to lead the delivery of capital projects across the Trust, ensuring they meet key objectives and support our overall strategic plans.
You will have responsibility for the design, development and delivery of complex projects across our sites from inception to completion, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget and to the highest standards. From new developments, extensions, modernising existing healthcare facilities and ensuring compliance with NHS and statutory regulations, to driving innovation in sustainable design and leading multi‑disciplinary project teams, this role offers both challenge and reward.
Main duties of the job
* Lead the design and delivery of assigned capital projects, ensuring compliance with NHS standards, statutory legislation, and Trust policies.
* Manage all stages of project development, including site surveys, design workshops, procurement, and construction.
* Liaise with Quantity Surveyors, design teams, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure effective project delivery.
* Maintain tight control over project briefs, schedules, risks, and budgets.
* Ensure all projects comply with CQC outcomes, health and safety, and environmental standards, including net zero carbon targets.
* Work with Clinical & Estates teams to develop and present Capital Bids and support these teams on estates and capital aspects in the preparation of business cases.
* Work closely with the UHN strategy teams as the assigned estates lead to support during the early stages of design/project development, leading onto delivery of the construction elements.
* Develop and present progress reports, budget reports, financial forecasts and risk management reports.
* Oversee contract administration, including procurement, contract management, and dispute resolution.
* Promote a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and best practice in capital project delivery.
* Engage and communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, including Directors, Heads of Service, Consultants, and Commissioners.
Person Specification
Educations, Training and Qualifications
* Educated to Degree, Chartered engineer/surveyor or equivalent status level or equivalent level of education, training, or experience.
* Evidence of further education or study to Master's Degree level or equivalent level of training, experience or knowledge.
* Evidence of Continuous Professional Development, Post Qualification Structured Learning.
Knowledge and Experience
* In‑depth knowledge of NHS Estates and Facilities related standards, HTM’s, HBNs, ACOPs, and statutory compliance requirements within Health and Safety legislation.
* Experience of managing multi‑disciplinary projects.
* Experience of contract procurement and management.
* Experience of budget management (Capital, Revenue) and track record of delivering within financial targets.
* Significant experience of delivering NHS Estates and Facilities services which provide VFM and perform in the upper quartile when related to peer benchmarking.
* Experience of Capital contract management and successful delivery of complex projects from concept to delivery.
* Comprehensive understanding of clinical and non‑clinical risk management.
* Knowledge with regard to Sustainability and Carbon Reduction as it applies to the healthcare environment.
* Author of technical papers.
* Experience in a management role in a large complex organisation.

* Well‑developed leadership skills with the ability to set out a clear direction and inspire staff to deliver quality services.
* Effective communicator at all levels within the organisation with the ability to communicate highly complex project information in a way that is understood by non‑subject matter experts.
* Strong negotiation and persuasion skills.
* Ability to think strategically and manage operationally.
* Excellent report writing skills with the ability to analyse and interpret highly complex information and present succinctly and clearly.
* Matrix management (the ability to manage and influence others when there is not a direct line management relationship).
* High level of computer literacy.
* Strong commercial acumen.
* Set high but realistic standards for self and team.

Salary
£57,528 to £64,750 a year pro rata
