Overview
Trainee Utility Surveyor – SOCOTEC UK is offering an exciting opportunity in the Environment & Safety Division in Leeds (or surrounding areas). A comprehensive training program will transform you into a skilled surveyor within 12 months, with hands-on experience, mentorship from Senior Surveyors, and opportunities for a long-term career.
As a Trainee Utility Surveyor, you will support clients by delivering accurate utility surveys, helping to ensure safe project planning, and contributing to the success of the business.
Responsibilities – Trainee Utility Surveyor
* Assisting with utility detection surveys using Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and other surveying equipment
* Supporting senior surveyors in producing accurate utility maps and CAD drawings
* Helping to gather and record site data to industry standards
* Working safely on-site, following health, safety, and environmental procedures
* Developing strong working relationships with clients and colleagues
* Learning to interpret utility records and drawings to assist in survey delivery
Requirements – What We’re Looking For
* A genuine interest in surveying, construction, or civil engineering
* Willingness to learn and develop technical skills in utility detection and mapping
* Good attention to detail and problem-solving skills
* Strong communication and teamwork abilities
* A full UK driving licence (travel across the Yorkshire area required)
* A positive, reliable, and proactive attitude
Travel and Flexibility
Travel across the UK is common, particularly in the Yorkshire area. Candidates must be open to working away from home during the week and accommodate night or evening shifts as needed.

Our Land and Utility Surveying services combine traditional topographical surveying with specialised underground utility detection using equipment including Total Stations, GPS technology, and Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR). Our teams deliver precise site measurements, accurate utility mapping, and detailed CAD drawings to enable safe project planning while minimising risks associated with underground services and site conditions.
