Senior Health Care Support Worker, Chemotherapy Treatment Unit, CCC Liverpool, full time - 37.5 hours

8-6 Monday to Friday with the potential of Saturday working in the future.

A full time opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to work alongside and support our chemotherapy team. The post provides support to Registered Nurses and other members of the multi-professional team to deliver nursing care and treatment within the out-patient chemotherapy environment and includes the chemotherapy network clinics. The Senior Health Care Support Worker role also involves the undertaking of clerical duties; providing hands-on care, assistance and emotional support to patients and their relatives; performing phlebotomy, performing observations (T.P.R.), blood pressure, pulse and respiration (BM), urinalysis and to monitor blood transfusion patients, record observations and maintain documentation.


Responsibilities

* To assist chemotherapy nursing staff
* To undertake clerical duties
* To provide hands-on care, assistance and emotional support to patients and their relatives
* To provide indirect support, as part of the Chemotherapy Nursing Team, to ensure that the area to which they are assigned functions effectively
* To drive to network clinics and provide the same support and duties in these outreach clinics
* To perform phlebotomy, perform observations (T.P.R.), BM, and urinalysis
* To monitor blood transfusion patients, record observations and maintain documentation
* To perform cannulation when necessary
* IT skills and knowledge required

Excellent communication skills are essential and cannulation experience is desired. The successful candidate should have efficient computer skills to ensure that patients are correctly clerked and details inputted are accurate. The main skills that will be achieved through training are access to central venous access devices. General healthcare duties include supporting patients and caring for them and their activities of daily living (ADLs).

Person Specification

Essential

* Education & Qualifications: Good general education / Literacy & Numeracy or willing to work towards obtaining; working towards or prepared to work towards an apprenticeship in clinical healthcare; holds National Care Certificate

Desirable

* Level 3 Senior Healthcare Support Worker

Knowledge

* Confidentiality awareness; accuracy and attention to detail; interest in healthcare services; caring/supportive attitude; knowledge of Infection Control and Safeguarding processes

Experience

* Experience working in a healthcare setting; experience of caring for patients
