GE’s Power Conversion business, part of GE Vernova, provides electrification systems that are critical to customers’ power and energy needs for their high-performance applications. We work with some of the world’s major energy, maritime and industrial organizations, helping to enable a transition to energy efficiency and decarbonization, including through our specialist motors, drives and control technologies.

At Rotating Machines Rugby (RMR), we design and build some of the most technically advanced electrical rotating machinery in the world. We specialise in manufacturing large electrical rotating machinery: Motors and Generators, across a wide variety of industrial applications. Our motors are powering some of the most advanced warships in the world, whilst our generators are decarbonising industry for a more sustainable future. The Manufacturing Readiness & Technologies Team is a part of the RMR Engineering Department and consists of a team of Manufacturing Engineers, responsible for development and implementation of new innovative manufacturing technologies.

We drive improvements to execution, efficiency, and cost reduction through the continual implementation of Lean Manufacturing techniques and innovative ideas— a key part of the scope of work. We also ensure all the prior preparations are in place so that new projects can be manufactured as efficiently as possible.

Reporting to the Manufacturing Readiness & Technologies Leader, the Manufacturing Readiness Engineer is a key part of leading preparations for manufacturing to ensure a safe, right first-time execution that is both able to start and finish on time. Working cross-functionally to ensure everything is in place and ready prior to manufacture, providing technical leadership and active support of the project builds during execution.


What you will be doing as part of our team…

1. Design of new project-specific tooling. Developing, documenting, and implementing new manufacturing processes.
2. Researching and scoping proposals for investment of new innovative manufacturing technologies.
3. Organisation and optimisation of tooling and manufacturing processes.
4. Planning coordination, installation/commissioning of new kit, equipment, or contractor supervision.
5. Development/validation of new tooling suppliers.
6. Analysing and planning workflow, space requirements, and equipment placement to maximise manufacturing efficiency.

Working cross-functionally as part of a global GE team to ensure our customers (both external and internal) are satisfied with their experience of dealing with us.


Who We Are Looking For…

1. Sole UK national in order to comply with Government security restrictions associated with the project.
2. A keen and innovative Engineer who has strong leadership abilities to lead change within our manufacturing organisation.
3. An engineer with strong CAD Design skills (Preferably in Creo or SolidWorks), who can model tooling concepts and see them through to detailed design.
4. Ability to conduct mechanical calculations or FEA simulations is desirable.
5. Capability to set and meet aggressive goals. Motivated and driven to continually improve. Driven self-starter who reacts positively to challenges.
6. Excellent organizational, time management, leadership, and decision-making skills. Methodical worker with focus on attention to detail. Structured in approach and well organised.
7. Outstanding computer literacy and knowledge of design. Proficient in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint applications.
8. The aptitude to work as part of a diverse and multi-disciplined project team, whilst working on multiple projects and delivering to EHS, Quality, Delivery, and Cost metrics.
9. Strong written and verbal communication skills including negotiation, and presentation.
10. A broad knowledge of manufacturing processes, their engineering challenges, and best practices.
11. Motivating and influencing change agents.
12. Flexible approach, willing to work extended hours and travel when required.
13. Demonstrated experience leading engineering design and design reviews.
14. Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and documentation.
15. Proficiency with design tools such as Creo, AutoCAD, etc.
16. Proven ability to work in a dynamic team environment.
17. Demonstrated ability to train shopfloor operators and explain complex engineering processes. Effective communication across all levels, including senior management.
