Position: Support Worker (Full-time, 37 hours per week)
Working hours: A mix of early and late shifts between 9am and 8pm, including bank holidays and one in three Saturdays.
Salary: £23,775 progressing up to £25,027
About the Role
Hampshire County Council Social Inclusion Lot 3 provides supported accommodation for adults who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. This service offers community and in-reach support to individuals in temporary accommodation or struggling to maintain their tenancies.
Our goal is to deliver person-centred support, empowering clients to sustain their tenancies and acquire life skills for independent living.
Responsibilities
1. Manage a caseload of clients, conducting needs assessments and risk management on a one-to-one basis.
2. Mediate or negotiate with housing providers to prevent homelessness.
3. Provide advice on housing options, welfare benefits, rent deposits, and household goods schemes.
4. Assist clients with practical aspects of moving, such as contacting energy suppliers.
5. Support development of practical skills like budgeting, shopping, cooking, housework, laundry, health, and hygiene.
6. Conduct drop-in surgeries at designated locations.
7. Liaise with colleges, training agencies, and employers to facilitate access to education, employment, and benefit entitlement.
Requirements
Previous experience is not essential; a passion for working with homeless people and aligned values are important. You should be committed to helping others and find satisfaction in this work.
* Excellent verbal and written English skills
* Good IT and keyboard skills
* Polite, assertive, and self-motivated
* Genuine interest in homelessness issues
* Knowledge of benefits system and tenancy legislation
* Awareness of voluntary and statutory agencies
