Role: Progress and Development Tutor

Location: The Bedford Sixth Form

Salary/Benefits: Salary is between £29,316 and £34,394 per annum (Pro-Rata) DOE and Qualifications, People’s Pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses.

Hours/Weeks: 37 hours per week – 40 weeks per year

Contract Type: Permanent – Term Time

This is a UK based contract, and you are required to have the Right to Work in the UK. Unfortunately, we’re unable to offer sponsorship and any offer of employment will be subject to evidence of your Right to Work in the UK.

About the role:

We are currently seeking a Progress and Development Tutor to join our Sixth Forms department at The Bedford College Group.

As a Progress and Development Tutor, you play an important role in the success of our students through:

1. Personal Development & Academic Mentoring – Deliver the personal development and academic mentoring curriculum, including VESPA, additional qualifications and pastoral schemes of work, ensuring students gain meaningful skills and make strong academic progress.
2. Pastoral Support & Wellbeing – Provide pastoral care, monitor attendance, address wellbeing concerns, signpost to internal/external support and work with key stakeholders to help students progress and reach their full potential.
3. Targeted Academic Support – Support subject staff with academic mentoring, one‑to‑one and group interventions, independent learning plans, and guidance on UCAS, apprenticeships and employment applications.
4. Collaboration, Communication & Administration – Maintain effective communication with staff at all levels, support induction, complete required administrative tasks, monitor performance data and contribute to a thriving, student‑centred environment.
5. College‑Wide & Statutory Responsibilities– Participate in ID checks, walk‑rounds, exam invigilation, open days and events while upholding safeguarding, equality, diversity, health & safety and training expectations.

About you:

6. Qualifications & Professional Development – Educated to Level 3 with GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent), strong digital literacy, and evidence of recent, relevant professional development.
7. Knowledge of Post‑16 Education & Safeguarding– Excellent understanding of Post‑16 provision, learning support, sixth‑form assessment and reporting, with up‑to‑date knowledge of safeguarding, Prevent and equality and diversity expectations.
8. Learner Support & Engagement – Able to build strong rapport with young people, motivate them to reach their potential, deliver additional qualifications and maintain clear professional boundaries.
9. Communication, Organisation & Professional Skills – Exceptional verbal/written communication, organisational and prioritisation skills, attention to detail, confidentiality, teamwork and the ability to work under pressure to strict deadlines.
10. Values, Flexibility & Commitment – Demonstrates alignment with TBCG values, commitment to continuous professional development, adaptability to change, willingness to travel between campuses and adjust working hours when required.

The Bedford College Group was formed in 2017 following the merger of Bedford College and Tresham College and is now the largest provider of education in the South East Midlands, with over 15,000 students passing through our doors each year.
