Associate Health & Safety Manager

Regional (UK-based, with frequent travel across assigned region and occasional overnight stays)

Permanent contract

Full time 37.5 hours per week

Hybrid

£29284.00 - £33540.00 per annum

A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join our Property and Compliance/Regional Team as an Associate Health & Safety Manager.

As an Associate Health & Safety Manager you will be responsible for related administration duties, safety compliance within a designated region and will undertake a two year educational plan in order to obtain both the relevant experience and qualifications including NEBOSH General, NEBOSH Fire Safety & the NSPCC Safeguarding Designated Officer (supplied by YHA).

What will you be doing as an Associate Health & Safety Manager?

Working with the Health & Safety Team you will be:

* You’ll support your Hostel Managers with all matters relating to risk, whilst instilling ownership and accountability for them to identify and manage risk. You’ll support with the management of accidents/incidents and dangerous occurrences and with investigations and reviews, recommending appropriate actions.
* Following successful completion of your training, you’ll complete Fire Risk assessments, setting and accepting actions, using a pragmatic risk-based approach to ensure that risk is reduced to a tolerable level.
* You’ll ensure Hostel Managers are advised and informed as to how to deal with risk on a day to day basis and keeping due diligence current.
* You’ll manage the processes for safeguarding of guests, particularly children and vulnerable adults, and ensure YHA Safeguarding policy is followed at all times.

* You’ll provide clear leadership to your region, communicating regularly and effectively. You will ensure relevant information is cascaded to every team member and that’ll your team have the knowledge and capability to perform effectively within their roles.
* You’ll manage and minimise risk to YHA through effective policies, processes and practices, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and with a key focus on safeguarding.

What Skills and Experience do you need to be an Associate Health & Safety Manager?

To work as part of the Health & Safety Team we are looking for candidates with the following qualities:

* Confident and effective communicator and facilitator, with the ability to build collaborative relationships with others.
* Results focused with a tenacious approach to delivery and quality of output, whilst, at the same time, displaying integrity in own behaviour and dealings with others.
* Resilient, with determination to positively overcome barriers.
* Strong working knowledge of health and safety legislation and best practice, with the ability to apply this with a pragmatic and common-sense approach.
* Accepts responsibility for issues and manages them through to completion, does not delegate responsibility to others.
* Ability to work flexibly, including regional travel on a regular basis with overnight stays to meet the needs of the business.
