Main responsibilities and tasks
1. Identify health and safety risks and ensure that the plant and equipment are maintained in a safe working order, following safe working practices at all times.
2. Inform the Engineering Supervisor or the Production Supervisor of any relevant issues related to quality, safety, and maintenance.
3. Work professionally, complying at all times with company policies on safety, hygiene, and housekeeping.
4. Monitor the performance of plant and equipment, making adjustments and carrying out maintenance to meet quality and efficiency standards.
5. Perform maintenance on plant and equipment to improve reliability, reduce downtime, and address machine-induced quality issues, including mechanical and electrical work.
6. Accurately complete all maintenance documentation and submit it to the appropriate personnel.
7. Identify and rectify machine faults (mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, or hydraulic).
8. Attend to machine breakdowns promptly and prioritize work with the Production Supervisor/Manager to minimize downtime.
9. Assist with the installation and implementation of machine improvements and projects.
10. Be available for overtime and callouts as required.
11. Assist in developing PPM maintenance systems, both electrical and mechanical.
12. Perform other duties as required by the Engineering Supervisor.
Education & Skills
1. A recognized technical degree or minimum HNC/HND qualification in Engineering, Electrical Automation.
2. An apprenticeship is advantageous but not essential.
3. Experience in plastics manufacturing, especially blow molding, is highly beneficial.
4. Understanding of ladder logic and fault diagnostics is essential.
5. Working knowledge of drive systems and platforms such as Fanuc, Siemens, Okuma, Toyoda, and PLCs including Allen Bradley and Siemens 7 Krupp.
6. Electrical and mechanical engineering knowledge.
7. Hydraulics and pneumatics experience is advantageous but not essential.
8. Knowledge of preventative maintenance procedures.
9. Fault-finding techniques expertise.
10. Proven technical troubleshooting skills.
11. Ability to use electrical troubleshooting equipment.
12. Understanding of modern maintenance techniques, technologies, and systems.
13. Familiarity with CMMS operating systems and development is essential.
