The Role
We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Customs Assistant to join our team. In this varied role, you will support customs clearance processes while also assisting with day-to-day freight forwarding operations. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to build a career in logistics with exposure to multiple areas of the business.
Key Responsibilities
* Prepare and process import/export customs declarations in line with HMRC and EU regulations.
* Ensure accurate use of commodity codes, Incoterms, and duty/VAT calculations.
* Liaise with customers, suppliers, and HMRC to resolve queries.
* Maintain accurate customs records and documentation.
* Support the operations team with bookings, job creation, and tracking shipments.
* Assist with preparing paperwork (CMR, GMR, transit docs, PODs, etc.).
* Provide general administrative and operational support to ensure smooth daily workflows.
Requirements
* Previous experience in customs, freight forwarding, or logistics (preferred but not essential – full training provided).
* Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
* Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
* Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
* IT literate (MS Office, email, TMS systems – training provided ).
* Willingness to learn and take on varied tasks across customs and operations.
