NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million people, and to a wider population of 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.

The role:

Renfrewshire HSCP is recruiting a Health Improvement Senior to lead key elements of our mental health improvement and suicide prevention work. The post will coordinate local delivery of Creating Hope Together, support multiagency planning, and strengthen the systems that help improve mental wellbeing and prevent suicide across the HSCP area.

The role involves leading workstreams that include mental health improvement activity such as promoting positive mental wellbeing, strengthening protective factors, and supporting services and partners to embed evidencebased approaches in their everyday practice. It also includes suicide prevention workforce development, ASIST and safeTALK training delivery, partnership coordination, postvention support and wider programme development.

You will use evidence, local data and professional expertise to support services, staff groups and partners to build confidence and capability in both mental health improvement and recognising and responding to suicide risk. They will work collaboratively with partners across statutory, voluntary and community sectors.

Please note that all roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

1. This is a full time (36) post working Monday to Thursday 0900 to 1700 and Friday 0900 to 1530.
2. This post will be based at Linwood Health Centre; however will also include home working (hybrid).

Key responsibilities:

You will provide a level of expertise in determinants influencing mental health and suicide risk in addition to specialist health improvement expertise, in order to develop and ensure others are able to deliver a number of health improvement work streams to improve health and reduce inequalities across a range of settings, including 3rd sector, council and HSCP settings.

While having a comprehensive evidence base and policy context relating to suicide prevention and mental health improvement in order to advise strategic forums and lead working groups (multi-agency) as required, and be able to plan and organise a broad range of partnership and programme functions.

It is required you establish and maintain key partnerships with statutory, voluntary and community organisations at an operational level to facilitate, co-ordinate and ensure implementation of programmes to improve health and address inequalities in health. This includes working collaboratively with partners across HSCP services, education, local authority departments and thirdsector organisations to support consistent and coordinated suicide prevention and mental health improvement activity, strengthening the wider system response.

You will influence national and/ or local organisations in order to deliver public health policy or public health priorities and support the PHD/HSCPs contributions to national strategies; Community Planning or Scottish Government funded initiatives. This may include contributing to the delivery of local suicide prevention actions aligned to Creating Hope Together and supporting workforce development and capacitybuilding through the delivery of suicide prevention training such as ASIST and safeTALK.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

3. Knowledge of health improvement/ public health field acquired through relevant degree, supplemented by specialist health improvement/ public health knowledge, acquired through training, extended courses and experience to post graduate diploma level equivalent (SCQF level 10) and/ or
4. significant practical, demonstrable and relatable experience in a comparable role
5. Knowledge of suicide prevention policy, practice and evidence
6. Breadth of experience in health improvement/ public health/suicide prevention or other mental related field
7. Demonstrated ability to co-ordinate and organise multi-agency groups to deliver health improvement activities
8. Accredited ASIST Trainer status is essential for this role
