Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity within the acute adult Inpatient Mental Health Services including Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit for an Assistant Ward Manager on the wards based within Lynfield Mount hospital. These ward's care for males and females aged 18-65 who are experiencing an acute mental illness.

We are looking for someone who is prepared to lead creatively, committed to improving patient and family carer experience, and who will lead and motivate the team to strive for continuous improvement through the development of pathways with across Mental Health Services and with partner organizations in the acute care, voluntary and community sectors.

Areas of focus will include creating a safe and caring culture, quality and safety agendas, safer staffing, meeting key performance indicators, roster management, lessons learnt and enabling development of the team.

Main duties of the job

To provide and coordinate a high standard of care to the patients within the Adult Mental Health Acute Care Service

Support the Ward Manager in the management of staff, meeting quality standards, implementing policy, managing change and delivering innovation.

Delegate work to staff and be the responsible clinician that ensures care requirements are implemented satisfactorily.

Distribute medication in line with Trust policy and NMC guidelines.

Maintain administration information systems as required.

To comply with the correct implementation of the Mental Health Act.

Post holder will regularly act as the duty nurse, shift co-ordinator and the nurse in charge of the unit.

Formulates and influences new ways of working within the service.

Guide/mentor/supervise supporting staff as required facilitate/deliver ongoing or functionally relevant activities in the most appropriate setting.

Acts as a role model to staff.

Acts as a consultant to staff on clinical and operational matters, providing advice on clinical and professional matters.

Ensure that patient records are maintained and that information is passed on in a co-ordinated manner.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

1. Registered Mental Nursing Certificate (RMN)
2. Current Registration on part 3 or part 13 of NMC register.

Desirable criteria

3. Teaching (clinical practice) qualification/certificate or equivalent experience.

Experience

Essential criteria

4. on to staff. • Clinical experience including experience of risk assessment, assessing patients, and creating/implementing and evaluating care plans
5. Assessment, planning, formulation, and evaluation of patient’s psychological difficulties
6. Experience of supervising staff.
7. Experience of providing teaching and education to staff.

Desirable criteria

8. Involvement with innovation in Nursing Practice.
9. A minimum of 2yrs post qualification working in a mental health inpatient setting
