The Role
Are you passionate about starting a career in library and information services? Join our dedicated team at the heart of the legal profession.
The successful candidate will play an important role in the Law Society library services team. Supporting our small, user-focused professional staff in the efficient daily running of the library and document delivery service, you'll also be assisting members in using our collections and databases.
Join us to gain hands-on experience in legal research tailored to the solicitors' profession and help us deliver an excellent service to our members. Based in our beautiful London library, home to our unrivalled collection of current and historic law, you'll also have the opportunity to contribute to wider team activities such as welcoming newly qualified solicitors at Admissions ceremonies, and supporting projects including the implementation of a new classification system (Moys).
This traineeship is ideal for someone fully committed to pursuing a postgraduate qualification as a library or information professional. It offers valuable practical experience in a legal library setting. Our team uses online subscription databases and an extensive print collection to assist solicitors and their support staff with their varied enquiries. We run a document delivery service open to all which provides precedents, cases, journal articles, legislation, and commentary.
The Law Society is the membership body for the legal profession and our members are at the heart of what we do. We're committed to supporting our members throughout their careers. In your role, you will be working directly with them to deliver high-quality research services that support their legal practice. Your contribution will help us meet the evolving needs of solicitors, law firm staff, and the wider legal community we serve.
Please refer to the job description for more information.
What we're looking for
The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic and motivated to start a career in libraries or the information sector. You will have some customer service experience and good interpersonal skills for confidently working with library users and colleagues. You will be able to demonstrate accuracy, consistency and attention to detail.
Do you think you are an excellent candidate for the trainee librarian post, but feel you do not meet every requirement? Studies show that some groups of people are less likely to apply for jobs unless they match all criteria. If your background doesn't perfectly align with all the criteria but this is your dream role, please do apply.
What's in it for you
We offer a generous flexible benefits package and excellent professional development opportunities in a progressive membership organisation with a reputation for excellence and legal expertise. Joining our team means becoming part of a supportive environment where your contributions are valued. We're committed to promoting equality, diversity and inclusion, and a culture of dignity and respect.
