About Us
COALHOUSE is an exciting new restaurant concept in Cheltenham, created by restaurateur/chef Lewis Spencer and co-owned by Jay Rahman/JM Socials. Located in the former Mayflower restaurant, COALHOUSE is a Smokehouse and Taproom serving authentic American barbecue, craft beers, and vibrant cocktails across two floors. We are passionate about delivering great food, drinks, and hospitality in a lively, welcoming environment.
The Role We are seeking a dynamic and experienced General Manager to lead the day-to-day operations of COALHOUSE. This is a hands-on role for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, has a genuine passion for hospitality, and can inspire a team to deliver exceptional service.
Key Responsibilities
* Oversee the daily running of the restaurant, bar, and service operations.
* Recruit, train, and manage a high-performing front-of-house team
* Drive sales and profitability while maintaining excellent guest satisfaction.
* Ensure smooth coordination between kitchen and front-of-house teams.
* Monitor and manage stock levels, ordering, and supplier relationships.
* Maintain high standards of food safety, cleanliness, and compliance with health & safety regulations.
* Implement and uphold company policies, procedures, and service standards.
* Lead by example, creating a positive workplace culture.
* Manage budgets, rotas, and reporting to ownership.
About You
* Previous experience as a General Manager (or Assistant GM/Restaurant Manager looking to step up) in a busy restaurant/bar environment.
* Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop a team.
* A passion for food, drink, and creating memorable guest experiences.
* Excellent communication and organisational skills.
* Commercial awareness with a focus on driving sales and controlling costs.
* Calm under pressure with great problem-solving skills.
* Flexible and adaptable, with availability to work evenings and weekends.
