This growing business is seeking a talented Financial Controller to join a dynamic team and play a crucial role in managing and improving their financial operations.
Job Summary: The Financial Controller will oversee the company's financial operations, ensure accuracy in financial reporting, and drive financial performance. The ideal candidate is a proactive, strategic thinker with a good understanding of the construction and residential housebuilding sectors.
Key Responsibilities
* Coordinate the production and review of monthly management accounts according to the month-end timetable.
* Explain significant variances to Budget and discuss remedial actions.
* Implement control account reconciliation processes, ensuring each month’s closing trial balance is supported with balance sheet reconciliations.
* Lead budgeting and reforecasting processes aligned with strategic goals.
* Conduct financial analysis to support business decisions and strategic initiatives.
* Ensure compliance with UK financial regulations, accounting standards (UK GAAP/IFRS), and company policies.
* Reconcile plot income movements monthly, investigate adverse movements, and provide explanations.
* Liaise with external auditors for accurate and compliant financial reporting.
* Develop and maintain internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure financial integrity.
* Monitor departmental resources, supervise and mentor the finance team, and promote high performance and continuous improvement.
* Oversee financial systems (COINS) and software implementation and maintenance.
* Prepare draft content for monthly debriefs with Group and Divisional FDs, and quarterly Regional MD debriefs.
Qualifications
* Qualified finance professional (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent)
* Attention to accuracy and diligent accounts production
* 5-7 years of experience in financial management, preferably in UK construction or residential housebuilding
* Strong knowledge of UK financial regulations, accounting principles, and reporting standards
* Experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
* Leadership and team management skills
* Experience with COINS is advantageous
* Analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
* Excellent communication and presentation skills
