The post is a permanent, full‑time (40 hours per week) consultant position based in Borders General Hospital, Melrose.
Applicants must have full GMC Registration, a license to practise and be eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register. Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from the date of interview. Portfolio Pathway (formerly known as CESR) route doctors are only eligible to apply for a substantive consultant post once it has been awarded. Non‑UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training.
This post is a substantial role for a consultant Urologist who wishes to provide a high‑quality Urology service. The post holder will be a key member of the team delivering General Urology and Diagnostic Services for the population of the Lothians and the Scottish Borders.
The majority of elective sessions will be delivered at Borders General Hospital, Melrose. Development of specialist services according to the need of the population will be encouraged and will depend on the skills and training of the individual Consultant. Emphasis will be given to prostate diagnostics and management of BPH as well as protocolised follow‑up of patients with urological malignancy and medical andrology.
Complex Urology services are provided by Lothian Borders cases are discussed at the Lothian MDT with colleagues in both health boards working in collaboration. The post holder will also provide General Urology OPD at Western General Hospital and participate in the Lothian Consultant Urology on‑call rota based at Western General Hospital, Edinburgh. There is no provision for the post holder to provide out‑of‑hours cover for BGH.
