St Catherine’s Hospice in conjunction with LTHTR is delighted to be able to offer this exciting opportunity to join the hospice’s clinical team as an Occupational Therapist. The core mission of a hospice Occupational Therapist is to help patients maintain a sense of wellbeing and identity, even as their physical abilities decline. This involves empowering them to continue doing things they enjoy and find meaningful, fostering a sense of control over their lives, and promoting dignity and purpose. This opportunity comes at an exciting time for the hospice, which has an excellent in-patient unit of 19 beds, has expanded its well-regarded and highly-respected community Clinical Nurse Specialist team as well as launching a hospice at home pilot. This new post holder will work flexibly across clinical services and although primarily based on the inpatient unit, will have opportunities to develop community and out-patient services in addition.

Main duties of the job

If you are caring, compassionate and committed to making a difference to those facing conditions like cancer, heart failure and motor neurone disease at one of the most poignant times in their lives, we want to hear from you. You will become a member of a highly motivated, multi-professional team focused on providing high quality, responsive care for patients and their families when and where they need it.

You will have the opportunity to lead the development of services to support patients including co-ordinating transitions from Hospice to home, discharge planning, home assessments, safe moving and handling and mobility assessments, managing symptoms such as pain, fatigue and anxiety, and lead therapeutic interventions to improve mood, cognitive function and physical ability

This creates even more opportunities for placements at the hospice, staff development, and research and innovation, to improve palliative You will be contractually employed by LTHTR, but via service level agreement will work as St Catherines Hospice, and will be supported in continued professional development

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Duties to include but not be limited to:

1. Effective communication of sometimes distressing information to service users and carers, concerning diagnosis, prognosis and treatment plans

·Effective often complex verbal and non-verbal communication within the wider MDT

2. Coordination and organisation of effective MDT communications

3. Own appraisal and Personal Development Plans are completed as per Trust Policy
4. Demonstration of a commitment to independent learning including an up to date and expert knowledge of professional practice

5. Implementation of Trust/Hospice Infection Control procedures including assurance of implementation within the team

6. Management of clinical and physical risk within own service user caseload and support provided for other staff and students to do so

7. Practice within RCOT Scope of Practice and Professional Code of Conduct

Qualifications

Essential criteria

8. H.P.C. Registration
9. Occupational Therapy degree/diploma
10. Clinical Educator
11. Leadership or management training or equivalent experience

Desirable criteria

12. Member of a Professional Body
13. Educated to masters level
14. Continuous improvement/transformation training

Knowledge

Essential criteria

15. Evidence of leadership in service planning and development
16. Clinical expertise in the management of highly complex patients
17. Current knowledge of evidence based practice in this speciality
18. Breadth of clinical experience across a variety of settings.
19. Experience of clinical governance and application to practice and service delivery
20. Experience of leading audit
21. Knowledge of national, local and professional health service agendas

Desirable criteria

22. Clinical research abilities to help facilitate a research environment
