Our National Innovation & Capital Tax Reliefs Team works with a range of companies, from start-ups to multinationals, to assist them in the preparation of claims for Research & Development tax relief. As an Innovation Reliefs Assistant Manager in our Manchester, Liverpool, Preston, Leeds or Stoke office, you will work with companies across all sectors, most notably manufacturing, engineering, life sciences, software and digital technologies to assist them to identify and prepare successful tax relief claims. The variety of projects and impressive client list will challenge you every day, helping you expand your capabilities and grow professionally.
This is an exciting opportunity to work in an actively growing, specialist Innovation Reliefs tax team at RSM.
You’ll make an impact by:
1. Developing claim methodologies and managing the preparation of R&D tax relief claims for submission to HMRC.
2. Coordinating and leading meetings with clients to advise on R&D tax relief and assisting with identification of qualifying R&D activities and expenditure.
3. Analysing and compiling high quality qualifying R&D expenditure calculations.
4. Demonstrating your expertise in writing technical descriptions of the client’s projects to include in the reports.
5. Collaborating with the wider team and support with business development opportunities.
6. Ensuring that the R&D engagement team are fully updated on progress and any issues that might affect the client relationship.
7. Working collaboratively with other members of the IR team in the region and nationally.

8. Relevant professional qualification (or working towards), for example CA, ACA and/or CTA.
9. In depth knowledge of Innovation Reliefs.
10. Experience in preparing and submitting R&D tax relief claims across sectors, and knowledge of different claim methodologies, especially any industry specific challenges, over a broad range of industries.
11. Strong level of tax technical knowledge of the UK’s R&D tax incentives.
12. Experience in drafting project technical descriptions with a clear and concise writing style and with reference to the DSIT guidelines on R&D for tax purposes.
13. Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
14. Experience in responding to HMRC enquiries.
