We are looking for talented and inspirational people who put the needs of the public at the heart of everything that they do and who want to make a difference. If you feel you are that person then we want to hear from you.

We wish you all the very best with your application.

The Role & Key Responsibilities

The Force Command Centre (FCC) have an exciting new opportunity to join the department in a brand new role. We are looking to recruit 10 Full time coaches to be part of a new coaching pod. They will be responsible for coaching our new recruits (and returners) who have recently joined the department, welcoming them to the FCC and getting them ready and skilled, enabling them to be signed off and onto their rota.

We welcome applicants who are existing coaches and also those interested who have the right skills or willingness to learn to become a coach as training will be given. Applicants must have experiecne in Police Call Handling or Dispatching or experience in Call Centres for Emergency Services.

There are usually 5 intakes a year and coaching programme will take 8 weeks on a 2:1 basis. New starters are expected to be ‘ready’ after the 8 weeks and the coach has a vital part to play in the ensuring they are safely ready to leave the pod and move on to work independently.

This role is primarily Monday to Friday office hours, with a few later and slightly longer shifts towards the end of each intake to help them prepare for their new shifts on their rota. This role offers a genuine opportunity to make a meaningful impact within the department, without the demands of 12 hours shifts, night shifts or weekend working.

Coaches will have additional supporitng roles. When they are not coaching, the successful applicants will support the Onboarding and Integration Supervisor and the Recruitment team with some elements of recruitment, such as Discovery events and interviewing.

Coaches have the opportunity to really develop and guide their students and to create a positive mindsets and approach to their work and vital part that call handlers and dispatchers play in policing.

They will be trained as Mental Health Fist Aiders, Defusers and will be wellbeing SPOCs to ensure the department has trained people around them to listen and support them when most needed. Coaches will be responsible for promoting any department wellbeing initiatives.

Coaches will be given specific training to ensure they have the right skills to be coaches. It takes care, compassion and patience to be a coach and it is essential that coaches have the right skills to carry out this role.

This role will attract an unsociable allowance, currently £931 (lower bracket)
