Senior Charge Nurse – Renfrewshire Mental Health In‑Patient Services
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK, employing around 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non‑clinical professions. The Senior Charge Nurse role is pivotal within Renfrewshire Mental Health In‑Patient Services, working closely with the nursing and multidisciplinary team to ensure a high standard of care for patients in one of our mental health wards.
Role Overview
Shift pattern: Monday to Friday, 09:00 – 17:00 (37 hours per week). From 1 April 2026, full‑time Agenda for Change (AOC) posts will be reduced to 36 hours. The post holder will have 24‑hour continuing responsibility for the ward they manage and will participate in the Senior Charge Nurse On‑Call rota.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the nursing team in line with the Senior Charge Nurse job description.
* Maintain 24‑hour responsibility for patient care and ward management.
* Ensure high standards of clinical practice and patient safety.
Qualifications
* First‑Level Registered Mental Health Nurse with significant post‑registration experience.
* Relevant post‑registration training and speciality experience with appropriate post‑registration training.
* PVG membership scheme/Disclosure Scotland check required.
Additional Information
* Initial placement will be at any of the three Renfrewshire Mental Health In‑Patient sites: Dykebar Hospital, Royal Alexandra Hospital or Leverndale Hospital.
* Effective 1 April 2026, full‑time working hours for all AOC posts will reduce to 36 hours.
