Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant – Northumberland
Location: Northumberland
Salary: £89–£108 per day
Contract: Full-time, Long-Term
Some days will be tough. All of them will matter.
We’re looking for a resilient, compassionate Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in Northumberland supporting children with social, emotional, and mental health needs (SEMH).
This isn’t your average classroom role. You’ll be helping young people develop trust, rebuild confidence, and discover their motivation to learn—often after challenging life experiences. If you’re calm, patient, and know that behind every behaviour there’s a reason, this could be the perfect fit for you.
What You’ll Be Doing:
1. Supporting pupils 1:1 and in small groups with SEMH needs
2. Helping students build social skills, emotional regulation, and resilience
3. Working closely with SENCOs, pastoral teams, and therapists
4. Creating a calm, supportive learning environment
5. Being a steady, positive role model every day
What You’ll Bring:
6. Experience working with young people facing barriers to learning
7. A calm, grounded presence—Team Teach or Thrive training is great but not essential
8. Great communication skills and a natural, empathetic way with children
9. The ability to encourage self-awareness, self-regulation, and motivation in pupils
10. A sense of humour and a lot of heart
Why This School?
You’ll join a values-led team who understand that complex behaviour is often rooted in unmet needs. This is a setting where relationships come first, and where your work is truly appreciated.
