About the role
In this Electrical Engineer job in Northampton, you will carry out electrical installation, testing, and maintenance activities within a highly regulated environment. You will diagnose faults by isolating equipment, performing visual inspections, and testing components to identify and resolve issues effectively.
You will be responsible for installing electrical systems and associated equipment, ensuring all work is compliant and fully certified. Managing assigned work orders from receipt through to completion is a key part of the role, including providing regular progress updates.
Additional responsibilities include assisting in the preparation of estimates and quotations where required, while strictly adhering to all health & safety regulations, safe systems of work, and engineering best practices. You will follow company procedures and Quality Management Systems across all M&E services.
Working collaboratively within a multi-skilled team of electrical, mechanical, and building operatives, you will build and maintain strong relationships with clients, colleagues, and suppliers. You will also support continuous improvement initiatives, deliver value for money, and participate in internal training while operating in line with GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) standards.
This role is based within a secure and sensitive, permanently staffed site environment.
About you
To be successful in this Electrical Engineer job in Northampton, you will be qualified to City & Guilds 2360 Parts 1 & 2 (or equivalent NVQ) and hold the 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (C&G 2382). You will also have C&G 2391-10 Inspection & Testing, with C&G 2391-20 Design & Verification being desirable but not essential.
You will have proven post-apprenticeship experience in electrical installation and maintenance, along with strong experience working with LV distribution systems. Knowledge of standby power systems, including generators and UPS, is required.
A solid understanding of safe working practices and permit-to-work systems is essential, alongside familiarity with A/C systems and controls. Experience within pharmaceutical, healthcare, or processing environments would be advantageous, as would awareness of GMP environments.
A multi-skilled background with some knowledge of High Voltage systems is beneficial. Strong communication skills are essential, as you will need to work effectively with multiple stakeholders, demonstrating a flexible and adaptable approach to working patterns.
