What's involved with this role: Job Title: Development Management Planning Officer Ref: N Northamptonshire RQ1560432 Pay rate: £31.20 per hour PAYE Based at any one of the office hubs in North Northamptonshire. Flexibility regarding office attendance - currently, a minimum of one day per week in the office is expected, with most work being done remotely. Staff are required to attend the office for tasks such doing their own site notices and conducting site visits. The role: We’re looking for a proactive planning professional to lead and manage projects and key documents to support planning policy development. You will contribute to the planning policy work by researching, writing policy, engaging in consultation, and guiding projects through to external examination. You will support the implementation of policies, prepare appeal statements, represent the Council at hearings, handle planning enquiries, and advise other departments as needed. The role involves implementing the Council's development management policies, ensuring timely processing of planning submissions and appeals, and addressing breaches of planning control to protect the environment and maintain public trust in the planning system. What the client is looking for: Relevant degree or qualification enabling future Chartered Membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (or equivalent) Clear commitment to gaining Chartered status via Licentiate, Associate, or Experienced Practitioner route—demonstrated through a Personal Development Plan Confident interpreting policy documents, plans, maps, and architectural drawings Solid understanding of the English Planning System Strong verbal and written communication skills Skilled in writing clear, professional planning reports Delivers excellent customer service, even under pressure IT Proficient Highly organised and detail-oriented Able to travel independently across the borough and beyond—access to own vehicle preferred Excellent time management skills Physically capable of site visits in varied and challenging conditions, including use of ladders and scaffolding and traversing uneven ground How to Apply Quote the Job Title and Reference Number in your application.
