About the role:
Supply Desk are working with a Secondary school based in Portsmouth that are seeking a Literacy Lead to support students. The role will be teaching all elements English with some general cover with time allowed for planning and marking. The school are looking for someone with excellent subject knowledge, good classroom management and a really positive approach to teaching and building relationships. This is an exciting opportunity to gain valuable skills or build upon existing experience in an education setting.
What we are looking for
We are especially keen to hear from primary-trained teachers with a strong background in literacy and a confidence in delivering English. However, we also welcome applications from those with Qualified Teacher Status with secondary training. SEN experience is highly valued, although a strong interest and willingness to learn are equally important.
You will be someone who:
Delivers high-quality, structured teaching with excellent classroom practice
Understands how to support students working below age-related expectations
Can lead literacy development across the school
Brings a trauma-informed, therapeutic approach to their teaching
Is adaptable, organised and calm under pressure
Works well in a team and values collaboration
Has strong communication skills and a reflective mindset
Can motivate, challenge and inspire students
Has high expectations of behaviour, engagement and achievement
Is prepared to teach in any area of the school, if needed
