Essential Responsibilities:
1. Delivers complete solutions spanning all phases of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) (design, implementation, testing, delivery and operations), based on definitions from more senior roles.
2. Advises immediate management on project-level issues
3. Guides junior engineers
4. Operates with little day-to-day supervision, making technical decisions based on knowledge of internal conventions and industry best practices
5. Applies knowledge of technical best practices in making decisions
Minimum Qualifications:
6. Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience and a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
Preferred Qualification:
The Ads Tech team is building PayPal’s next generation advertising platform. It's a greenfield project based on advanced AI and large systems engineering to best utilize the wealth of merchant and transaction data available within the firm. The Ads Tech engineer's role will help to design and develop key parts of the platform. We believe in egoless programming - everybody is an equal and we value learning from and helping each other. We enjoy solving hard problems, but we recognize we cannot do so as individuals. Your day-to-day: As a Senior Software Engineer you'll contribute to the technical roadmap and drive innovation. You'll collaborate with product and engineering teams to deliver impactful solutions.
7. Strong analytical skills to analyze requirements and transform into scalable software designs.
8. Strong advocate of code craftsmanship, good coding standards and use of tools that will improve the quality of the delivered code
9. Willing to drive innovation & incremental improvements by showing initiative and drive
10. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address ambiguities and deliver business outcomes
What do you need to bring:
11. 10+ years of development experience with an emphasis on functional programming.
12. Proficiency in at least one functional programming language, preferably Scala and its TypeLevel ecosystem
13. 5+ years of experience in designing and architecting scalable backend systems with a focus on cloud-native solutions, microservices, and serverless architectures.
14. Expertise in designing and implementing fault-tolerant systems with a focus on high availability and disaster recovery.
Preferred Qualifications & Skills:
15. Experience with functional Effects libraries such as Cats-Effect or ZIO
16. Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure).
17. Python development experience specially in a machine learning context
18. Experience with using Agile/Scrum methodology for software development
19. Experience with large-scale, high-performance systems.
20. Knowledge of the Ad Tech & payment processing industry and relevant regulations.
