Trust StR Higher Doctor in Immunology/Allergy
Clinical Fellow/StR Higher in Immunology
Introduction
Clinical immunologists play a leading role in investigating and managing patients with immunodeficiency and allergy, collaborating with organ-based specialists to care for patients with autoimmune diseases and vasculitis. They oversee diagnostic laboratories that support diagnosis and monitoring of various immunological conditions. A consultant immunologist performs duties including clinical liaison, result interpretation, quality assurance, and assay development. Immunologists also engage in research, including clinical trials, and contribute to medical education.
Peninsula Clinical Immunology and Allergy Service
Based at Eden unit, Derriford Hospital, the service offers specialist immunodeficiency and allergy services for the South West Peninsula (population 1.8 million). It is one of four UK services accredited for both immunodeficiency (QPIDS) and allergy (IQAS). The team includes three consultant immunologists, two specialty registrars, a nurse consultant, five nurses, a unit administrator, two medical secretaries, and two receptionists. Two new posts are in recruitment: this immunology clinical fellow post and a data manager position.
