Introduction:Westwind School Division is seeking a caring and talented Educational Assistant (EA) to join our dedicated team at Stirling School. EAs play an essential role in student learning, often working closely with some of our students who need more specialized attention.

EAs are key members of the school team, and they work in different places within the school, such as regular classrooms, special classes, and other unique spaces. Their job is all about helping students who have various needs, including those related to thinking and behaviour, emotions and relationships, and physical abilities. Being an EA means being flexible and willing to adapt. What they do might change from one year to the next or even during a single school year.

Responsibilities

* Under the direction of the principal and the teacher, assist one-on-one with a student in lower elementary school.
* Assist the student who needs special support and services, helping them become an active part of the learning community.
* Support the student with toileting and hygiene needs.
* Foster and promote the student’s self-esteem and independence through established programs, encouraging them to reach their full potential.
* Create activities to enhance social interactions and language skills, promoting continuous learning and achievement.
* Act as an essential part of the student learning team.
* Interact positively with all students, displaying empathy and strong interpersonal skills.
* Demonstrate flexibility in diverse situations, maintaining a friendly and optimistic attitude.
* Work collaboratively within a team, particularly when dealing with behavioural issues or physical and developmental challenges.
* Engage with students both in school and the community, including overseeing breaks and accompanying field trips as needed.

Qualifications and Requirements

Qualifications

* Willingness to provide a current vulnerable sector check before employment begins.
* An Educational Assistant certificate or diploma is an asset.
* A current first aid certification is a bonus, but it is not mandatory.
