Job Description

A dedicated and nurturing specialist provision is seeking a resilient, compassionate and proactive SEMH/Behaviour Teaching Assistant to support primary-aged pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and associated behavioural challenges. This is a rewarding role where you can make a significant impact on pupils who need consistent, positive adult support.

About the Role

Working within a small, supportive team, you will:

* Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils who may have experienced trauma, anxiety or challenging life situations
* Provide 1:1 and small-group support to help pupils regulate emotions, manage behaviour and engage in learning
* Use de-escalation strategies, restorative approaches and clear communication
* Support pupils through transitions, routines and personalised behaviour plans
* Create a safe, calm and structured environment where pupils feel understood and valued
* Work closely with teachers, pastoral staff and external professionals to ensure consistent support for each child
* Encourage resilience, confidence and social/emotional growth through positive reinforcement

About You

You’ll thrive in this role if you:

* Have experience supporting pupils with SEMH needs, behaviour challenges or trauma-informed practice (desirable but not essential)
* Are calm, patient, emotionally resilient and able to stay positive in challenging situations
* Can build strong relationships through empathy, consistency and clear boundaries
* Understand (or are keen to learn) behaviour support strategies, de-escalation techniques and therapeutic approaches
* Work well as part of a supportive, multidisciplinary team
* Are passionate about helping pupils feel safe, supported and ready to learn

Why Join This Setting?

* Highly experienced SEMH leadership and exceptional pastoral support
* Ongoing specialist CPD (SEMH, trauma-informed practice, de-escalation)
* Small class sizes and excellent staff-to-pupil ratios
* A warm, committed team who care deeply about pupil wellbeing
* The opportunity to genuinely change a child’s daily experience and long-term outcomes
