Structural Engineer – Mott MacDonald Bentley | MMB

Role Overview

You will design, analyse, and deliver structural solutions for a range of projects – from clean water to wastewater treatment, reservoirs and nature‑based solutions – ensuring safety, sustainability and client satisfaction.


Key Responsibilities

* Prepare and review structural designs to guarantee fit‑for‑purpose and compliance with legislation and standards.
* Develop detailed calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical reports.
* Conduct site inspections and assess existing structures for repair or replacement.
* Produce technical specifications, schedules, and review supplier bids and submissions.
* Apply and challenge client specifications, presenting and defending complex solutions.
* Identify opportunities to improve delivery processes, including standard designs, sustainable solutions, and digital tools.
* Act as technical checker and undertake technical reviews across project teams.
* Manage interfaces, integrate design with other disciplines, and produce documentation.
* Collaborate with commercial, operational and construction teams for efficient and safe solutions.
* Supervise and mentor Graduates and Engineers, aiding their knowledge and skill development.
* Engage positively with the client, managing relationships and adopting a one‑team approach.
* Undertake site reviews to ensure buildability and integration with existing systems.


Candidate Requirements

* Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, or related field.
* Chartered member of a professional institution (e.g. ICE, IMechE) or equivalent experience.
* Experience with water, wastewater or infrastructure projects.
* Knowledge of design codes and standards (Eurocodes, British Standards).
* Proficiency in structural analysis software (Staad Pro, ETABS, SAP2000).
* Track record of delivering high‑quality outputs meeting design, quality and safety standards.
* Effective communication with team members and stakeholders.
* Methodical approach to problem solving, proactive and pragmatic.
* Ability to deliver results within short timeframes, prioritising tasks and managing time efficiently.
* Valid driving licence and willingness to travel to sites.
