Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled AIX & Red Hat Linux Engineer to join our team and work on-site with one of our UK-based clients. This role focuses on designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise UNIX/Linux systems in a secure environment. The successful candidate will have strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
* Install, configure, and maintain IBM AIX and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) systems.
* Manage LPARs, VIO servers, and HMCs in IBM Power Systems environments.
* Monitor and optimize system performance across AIX and RHEL platforms.
* Perform OS upgrades, patching, and backup/recovery operations.
* Automate administration tasks using shell scripting, Ansible, or similar tools.
* Collaborate with client stakeholders and internal teams to support business-critical applications.
* Ensure compliance with security and audit requirements.
* Provide on-site technical support and participate in on-call rotations.
* Maintain detailed documentation of system configurations and operational procedures.
Required Skills & Qualifications
* 5+ years of experience in AIX systems administration.
* 3+ years of experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).
* Strong knowledge of IBM Power Systems, LPARs, and VIO servers.
* Proficiency in shell scripting (Korn, Bash, etc.).
* Experience with automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet).
* Familiarity with SAN storage, networking, and virtualization.
* Excellent customer-facing and communication skills.
* Knowledge of LDAP for authentication and directory services.
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a client environment.
* Must hold or be eligible for UK Government Security Clearance.
Desirable Skills
* Python scripting for automation and integration tasks.
* IBM Certified System Administrator – AIX.
* Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) or Engineer (RHCE).
* Experience with hybrid cloud environments or containerization (Docker, Podman).
* Familiarity with monitoring tools (Nagios, Zabbix).
Education & Experience
* Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
* Demonstrated experience managing both AIX and RHEL environments in enterprise settings.
